At last, someone points this out. It is, I think, the real motivation behind this action. A whole lot of Europeans, not just the French government, are sick and tired of Britain acting as America's whore. Of course, the sensible course of action here would be de Gaulle's, but it's too late for that.
> Actually I'd like to see you take your ifs-crap vehicle where i take > my solid-axle jeep. What would be the point? Here in "Yuurp", we have these neat things called roads. The Romans invented them, I believe.
> WWI was the UK's, France's and Canada's war. No it wasn't. WWI marked the USA's entry onto the world stage. American intervention in the war was decisive even before declaration: US gold and credits kept both British and French economies afloat. Without that aid, a compromise peace would have been inevitable, simply because France and Britain could not long continue the war on the own resources. By the way, `Canada' didn't exist in those days, in the sense you seem to mean: it was still part of the British Empire.
Yes, you can get monochrome VGA. I've still got an old 12" Amstrad mono VGA monitor in the basement. Quite a nice crisp display, actually. X looked a bit wierd on it, though.
Hey! Yeah, that's right! Thanks so much for pointing that out! It fair lifted the scales from my eyes. Any other wisdom you'd condescend to share with us? How about "Keep in mind, after day comes night", or "Keep in mind, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" (hmmm, no, bit TOO wise for us, that; wouldn't want to waste any of your precious wisdom).
In the same spirit, here's one I wrote just now: "Keep in mind, there are too many Windows-using lamers posting these days, and they ALL suck".
> That's why Ford Motor's announcement announcement last week was > potentially the most significant technology news in years,
Yes, that's what he said. Stop and think for a second, people. Now: yes, you're right, this is absurd.
How many years, Jon? 5? 10? More important than, say, news about the first Linux kernel? The first ISP in the UK (or wherever)? The list of technology news which is more significant than this squib could be extended almost indefinitely -- but fuck that; if you want an education, go back to college (or try reading/. -- better than nothing).
Companies setting up home offices for their employees is NOT fucking news, which you'd know if you lived on Planet Earth (how are things on Zorg these days, by the way?) The only unique thing about this is the scale, which is interesting enough to warrant a mention in a "Quickie" posting, nothing more.
Ah, yes, asteroid mining. Does any else remember being a kid and thinking, "hey, in 2000, we're sure to have Moon bases and Mars bases and be mining the asteroids and...". And now here it is, the year 2000, and we don't even have a proper space station yet. Little missions like this are fine, but isn't it still terribly disappointing that the space race lost most of its momentum after Apollo?
What's informative about this? Hemos is basically telling anyone who complains about Katz, to fuck off. Hemos, if you want to tell someone to fuck off, just do it -- don't hide behind several thousand words of verbiage.
The point of the article is more, that VA will have to act more like MS & Co. to stay alive in the marketplace. Thus, there will come increasing pressure on/. Not so much overt pressure along the lines of "don't cover RedHat"; more a creeping tendency to slant stories, favour story x over story y, etc, in a way that is of benefit to VA. I'm not saying that this is the case; but this is the main thrust of the article I think.
Just when you think you've seen the worst of arrongant tossers, an even worse one pops up.

Oh, come on. This is a leading question, right? I mean, you must know that JK doesn't give two fucks for Linux, right? (Whoops, that should be `doesn?t').
Tut, tut. You're only allowed to ask ONE question. I suggest ~Do you want Mae Ling Mak naked and petrified?" -- I mean, who wouldn't? Err, no, wait, let me rephrase that. (Who IS Mae Ling Mak anyway?)
"sorry for all the idiots". You arrogant ponce! What's your game? You think by sucking up to JK you get to sit at the front of the class? You're not at school any more, dumb-ass. Stop sucking up to teacher!
And he got a 4 for this drivel! Ye gods and little fishes!
Well, bully for you. But last time I looked, it didn't say "News for victims. Stuff that makes you cry." on the front page. Er, excuse me, sorry to butt in and all that, but... what PERFUMED PONCE here dared to compare JonKatz with Hunter S. Thompson? Have I missed something? I saw a post talking about Tom Wolfe etc etc (take or leave him; and you could take him, if it were up to me); but the Great Gonzo?! Thou shalt not take that name in vain.
CmdrTaco is COOL? Yeah, cooler than Katz I guess, but still... I mean, Bill Gates is cooler than Katz. Come on, yes he is! He wrote a BASIC interpreter, for Christ's sake! How much MORE COOL do you want? (Paul reflects, in a moment of sobriety: where exactly am I going with this? And decides not to answer).
"What is wrong with my life That I must get drunk every night?"

Yes, I think this is the heart of the matter. As I said, I'm simply not used to anything else -- and what you've never known, you don't miss. Although, now that I think of it, the AS/400 had really nice on-line help...er, yes...
Hmm, yes, so I end up more or less agreeing with you?! That can't be right!;-)
That's more or less the way I had it figured, but... I want to KNOW what the deal is. I think it is the most basic question here, and needs to be answered. However, it probably won't be. I can see all the goody-goody questions accumulating already -- "Please, Mr Katz Sir, can we ask you about `geeks' and `corporatism'? Huh? Can we, huh, huh?"

Not quite sure what you're saying here. You do know the LDP has been around for years? And has been functioning well enough during that time? I mean, when I started using Linux in 1994, I knew nothing about Unix save for what I'd read in The Unix Programming Environment. I found the LDP docs very helpful. Although it does occur to me that, since the only Unix I have in-depth experience in is Linux, I tend to look at things in a Linux-centric way. Is that what you're getting at really? That things such as documentation are simply done better in, say, the FreeBSD world? I might agree at least part of the way there. I had a fiddle with FreeBSD recently; I was very impressed with the install program, and the Handbook is very good too.
At last, someone points this out. It is, I think, the real motivation behind this action. Trolling for Jesus (or even Scooby Do) I can cope with; trolling for MS is a bit too much. Go work for Mindcraft or something.

"Mistah Katz, he dead!" (Sorry, couldn't resist).
