check out the listings on Ebay first, there are plenty of systems there and will probably be plenty more after the expo next week. Look for a recent dual system, depending on what your needs are, the dual 450's and 500's still have audio on, the digital audio systems and later do not have this port. Also most people usualy sell these systems with a fair amount of ram, software and even sometimes a second hard drive installed.

On OS X you have plenty of choices , you can run Xfree86 right along side aqua and compile your software.
Mac's have booted off the cd before this, just hold down the c key, no need for a boot floppy or changing BIOS. it just works.
