Why don't they use a flash based video player like NBC, ABC, etc.
If they detect that you are from the UK they show you the videos WITHOUT ADs. If you are outside the UK they show you the videos WITH ADs based on your country of origin.
Everyone gets to watch their content and they makes more money though AD revenue. A win-win in my book.

This chunk could come from copyrighted data or public domain data. What the tracker stores isn't the actual copyrighted data, but offsets, lengths, and ip addresses of where to find particular chunks.
In essence, if you were downloading a music CD, the data chunks could be coming from someone who has an Ubuntu ISO image, or some type of copyrighted material.
With this system it essential becomes impossible to tell who is uploading what.
At the most primitive level people have an innate desire to survive.
From birth humans must depend on each other to survive. A baby without a mother would certainly die. While the mother tends to the baby, someone else must tend the mother, perhaps the father. This hierarchy of dependence defines morality.
If the father didn't take care of the mother, the mother wouldn't be able to take care of the baby and the family would die off.
It's "wrong" for the father to abandon the mother. It's "wrong" for the mother to abandon the baby. Why? Because the group will die off.
Now let's grow the family into a tribe. Why is it "wrong" to steal food from another? Because if you steal food, the tribe might lose members. If the tribe loses members, the tribe might be able to survive. Why is it "wrong" to hurt other members of the tribe? Because if members get hurt, they could die and result in the downfall of the tribe. Why is it "good" for people to work hard and "be kind" to each other? Because mating requires dependability between people.
When people lived in the wild, everyone in the tribe counted. There is a high dependency between. If one faltered, then the tribe as a whole would suffer. For example, Five person would hunt, two person would cook, two would look after the young, two would go get berries, one would keep the fire going. By getting along (being moral), the tribe would have a better chance of surviving.
Now lets grow the tribe into cities, countries, world. As society gets bigger and bigger there are more people that a person has little or no dependence to. How do you deal with the situation where a person meets someone only once in their life? How should that person act? Society has created laws to deal with this. But these laws are simply an evolution of tribal code that allowed the tribe to survive.
To sum it up, morality evolved from the desire to survive.
If people were invincible(could not be hurt or die for any reason), could reproduce on their own and were totally independent from each other, would we have morality?

In terms of the dragging and dropping features I think one of the big issues is standardizing how data is stored within applications. For example, look at how SQL works. You have a physical data organization, conceptual schema, internal schema and external levels, all of which are designed to be independent. When a top level widget tries to query the main program it should have a very high level look. It shouldn't matter how the physical data is organized.
In terms of the mp3s, what I really mean is that the computer should play more similar sounding songs if I desire. For example, if i'm listening to song A and I liked it because of my particular mood, the computer should find songs simliar to song A that have the same tempo, beat, etc. All of these features can be extracted using DSP techniques.
So, when are we going to see smart and innovative desktops that dramatically improve user friendliness?
Just as some examples:
As an end-user why can't I extend applications by simply dragging and dropping features from one application to another? i.e. Dragging a search box from one app to another.
I have 1000s of photographs. How can these images be automatically categorized and displayed most effectively without having to manually add meta-data. It should be sorting images by looking at similarities between pictures, date taken and other automatically generated information
I have 1000s of mp3s. How can these songs be automatically categorized by mood, tempo, etc without manually entering in meta-data? Think of it as Pandora with your own music collection.
These are some of the type of things that would make using a computer easier to use.
Are open source desktop developers so focused on trying to make it "easy" for Windows user to convert they get Microsoft tunnel vision and can't innovate?
It's the year 2007 and we have desktops with the same intelligence as those back in the early 80's.
I don't like the fact that scientists say the world is round so I'm going to petition my local government to enact legislation to make the world flat. Does that sound right?
ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEES ARE OFFERED. If you have a ton of money riding on finding all the right loopholes and getting everything 100% perfect, buy a tax program or use an accountant.
It sounds to me like this is some type of Schottky diode. The phosphorus is the N-type semiconductor that is doped in the silicon and you've got metal (gold) contacts.
My question is, since the principle behind Schottky diode is the use of quantum tunneling, does this technique rely on how spin affects tunneling? If so, in what way?
