why is it that everytime a news source, such as slashdot, reports negativly on a politician, that if the political views of the politician coincide with that of the news source, that they fail to mention the politicians political party???
example: the next time you hear about a politician involved in a scandal on CNN, listen very closely. if they're a republican, believe you me, CNN will repeat that fact over and over. if it's a dem, well, they'll do exactly what/. did here, and "fail" to mention the party affiliation.
the last car i bought had "666" on the plate. it was used, and i bought from a dealership (had to, rare car). anyway, i asked them to remove the plates and they said "sure" without even blinking.
actually, i think moving to 64 bits will make java programs more complicated. i recently wrote a java class for my current project, and i was amazed and horrified at the number of explicit type casts i had to make. moving to 64 bits will most likely make it worse because Sun(tm) won't want to break compatibliity, so they'll introduce new types.
Quoth the article: The quest to conquer pi's infinite expanse has led some mathematicians into fierce calculating competitions. The current record, achieved with the help of supercomputers, is 500 billion digits.
500 billion digits? that's all? my nt box calculates that many instructions every time it boots. maybe the mathematicians should upgrade.
Ever heard of SELECT INTO? A bug there would cause data to be lost. Or how about a stored proc that performs an INSERT or UPDATE based on the content of a SELECT? Add DTS into the mix, you have a million and one ways a bug in SELECT would cause data loss.

but the explaination for the submitters comment, However, the practice of tracking vehicles with GPS is still a legal practice. is simple enough: the Man always leaves himself an out to fuck with you later.
um, i just checked the online docs for MySQL, and views are not yet supported, and the transction support looks very, very spotty.
and even if both of those features were implemented, i'd still stand by my original statement: MySQL cannot compare technically to MSSQL (or Ora or DB2 for that matter).
but i'm right there with you on PostgreSQL. i reach for that one first when programming linux/bsd.
nope, that's not even close (try chemical@k.st if you want to mail me, but don't expect a reply). but i'm curious, why is my smtp address relevent? and where did you come up with that one?
pissed? hardly. and there is nothing for me to "get over", as i couldn't give the smallest rats ass who uses what DBMS. however, for someone who represents MySQL to claim technical superiority over MSSQL is a complete and utter joke, and must be interpreted as FUD.
oh, pluheeze. i originally wrote this: "if you're working at a company as a sql programmer or dba, 9 times out of 10 you can run something like this
"update employee set salary=salary*1.5 where id=yours" without anyone ever even knowing."
no where did i write that i actually did something like that.
but thanks for taking an older post completely out of context!
hello? how is it not obvious that MySQL is not a huge, stinking POS? for the love of God, it doesn't even support views! transactions? data integrity? oh, stop it! you're making me piss my pants with laughter!

There was no justification for it in Nagasaki or Hiroshima
um, no. there was a justification back then: stop the war. it worked, too. it worked so well that nukes haven't been used since.
couldn't find a link from the pages, but the direct link to his menu files is here.
You'll never get rich when you're unemployed.
and you will certainly never get rich working for someone else.
are they perl programmers?
FUD.
you won't need "certain software/drivers/protocols that are controlled by only MS". you'll need to use the SOAP protocol, which is quite open.

Or do we lack the intelligence to come up with something unique and inspiring?
written by someone with the nick "gillbates". oh, the irony!
there was absolutely no room to icorporate a larger engine.
actually, some of them came with v6 engines. i also remember having a book of plans for upgrades, and more than one of those plans called for a v8.
alas, i drive something much better these days.
um, didn't they admit to blowing $92 million? seems to me that you can't have it both ways.

I could encode Britney's music with PGP and it would still sound just as good.
methinks if you encoded Britney's "music" w/ PGP, it wouldn't sound just as good. it would sound better.
have it so easy. back in my day, we couldn't even use duct tape to live in space.
what use is a SMP box for gaming when there are no SMP games? i know, i know, Quake3Arena runs SMP, but only under WinNT/2K, iirc.
am i off the mark? are there any games that can/will take advantage of SMP linux?
are here. note the $175,000 pricetag and the $18,000 maintenance fee. must be former IBM engineers. :)

well, of course you have to have multimedia. how else can Mom hear "You've Got Mail!"???
