  1. Re:Statistically invalid samples on Math Skills Survey Shows U.S. Lags Behind · · Score: 4, Insightful

If you are so uneducated that you cannot spell a foreign country name, you cannot really be moderated as 5-Insightful, but let's let that go for now.
You might have gotten a bit more mileage from pointing out that comparing the quality of education per dollar spent is a poor metric due to VERY significant differences in the level of living. It would have been more relevant to do it on the basis of percentage of the GNP (Gross National Product, if you're wondering) or a similar statistic rather than the total cost of the educational system.
Then you might have noticed (I guess) that they spend a larger portion of their budget on education (as opposed to cruise missiles, etc.) and thus can give teachers better salaries than US does (compared to the average salary), etc.
    Have fun posting.

  2. Why bother with a Photo Printer anyway ? on New ChromaLife 100 Canon Printer Inkset · · Score: 4, Insightful

I can print a 4x6 digital picture for 19 cents at Costco, and it goes up to a 11x19 inch for 2.99. No Costco around ? Try Wal-Mart for 24 cents, CVS for 29 cents, etc.
Other than the "I need it right now so I'll pay twice the price for a bad quality picture which fades fast too" factor, why would anybody pay a ton of money for a printer and then pay again in EXPENSIVE consumables, when they have a better choice.
    Happy printing.

The MA bill just says "Whoever, with intent to defraud, etc...". I guess our lawmakers are a tad more educated than Colorado's... Seriously speaking, using the technologies to defraud should be illegal - stop whining, it's not the technology, it's the way you use it. Have fun, Daniel

    Hmmm...
It's not worth shooting at - You're just tempting me to define "where they are appropriate!" to mean nothing at all.

Your question is pointless - it's all in how you define what's appropriate, and that's what this discussion seems to be about

  8. Slashdot IQ test for users/ editors on Slashback: Compromise, Bugs, Slag · · Score: 2, Informative

It seems to me that since the article is a recycled translation from GERMAN (which probably means that Bill Gates migh have said that Linux is the next great thing and it would have been lost in the translation), this was just an IQ test that either the editors (for publishing it) or the readers (for failing to spot that forever) failed miserable. Smart money is on both - after all, how hard can it be to READ an article that is being submitted and see it's junk before you start ranting on and on? Have fun, Daniel

I've heard the "I'm not posting as an AC, I just forgot my account info a few times before..." It's amazing how many people would do anything to keep their illusions that (in this case) Apple is smart... this is just part of the master plan. As long as Apple has this kind of quasi-religious following, they can trample over you any way they want and you'll thank them for it. Why are you surprised when they do it ? (Not that other software companies are better...)
