You can do the same with windows, you can have it run a script before installing the files but obviously this wasn't done. You can also create a CD to do unattended install of both patches or OS upgrade. Normal patch from microsoft's website does a version check, the automated patching system from MS can actually deploy the DLLs which they did in this case. This system can place any file on any win2k or winxp box that is on the domain(as long local machine has granted suficient permissions to domain admin group), it could also be used to place say a PDF corporate handbook on everyone's desktop. Think of it like trivial ftp with the ability to run remote commands(like rcmd in the admin pack). So please don't talk about windows unless you have a clue, you don't see me talking about linux. If you read my post I only make comments on apple and windows, two OSes I actually use. I don't take a stab in the dark about the features of linux.

Umm. Point of the internet is competition. If brick/mortars want to compete on price with internet retailers, they are going to lose. It will force retailers to provide something else. Look at the state of retail market, go to best buy and try to get help. If Bestbuy goes bankrupt, i won't be missing them. On the other hand look at Fry's, they easily compete on price with internet retailers. How do they do it? Volume.

As for moving overseas. If amazon wants setup their warehouse in mexico, so be it. Its gonna cost a bunch of money to ship stuff to the US. Remember internet retailers have shipping costs to either factor into their price or charge the customer.

I have an HDDVR, records hdtv shows perfectly fine. Some of the video cards output 1080i through component. Most HDTVs have both DVI and component inputs so you can use it as a computer monitor.

HD has more that just presentation perks, it also comes with digital sound something over the air has been lacking. It also comes with show information and station information, something over the air has been missing. And there's something to say about playing halo2 or GTA SA in cinematic perspective, or course you want to get technical its really outputting 640p and not HDTV(720 or 1080i).

Whats lacking on HDTV are movies, a dvd(pseudo 640p) can't compare to the quality of a 1080i broadcasted movie. Killer product for HDTV will be HDDVD or bluray. I find i'm constantly rewatching movies I've seen on HBOHD because it is simply amazing.

The real problem with HDTV is that I used to watch no TV, no I find myself watching it, now my gf thinks i pay more attention to the tv then her. Nevermind what I said above, I really hate the HDTV. It sucks. Don't get one, because .. [Can't finish the message now, Surivor in HD Is on]

I have HDTV setup at my house, I get HBOHD, and all the major networks. Last sunday Saving private ryan was broadcasted in HD. Most NFL football games are in HDTV, PBS has great shows in HDTV. Content is already there. Problem is the setup for HDTV is fricking expensive. Receivers are still $200+, forget about getting a tivohd because those are $1000. And TVs are still out of the price range of an average american.
