This is why open source is better! M$ expects me to wait until year's end for a patch?! What am I supposed to do until then, hide in a cave?

What's that you say? This isn't an article about Microsoft?

    Oh, nevermind then.

If the GPL was neutral, a company would be able to use free software, provide the source for ONLY that free software component, keeping the rest of its software secret. But because the GPL is viral, causing all source code referencing the GPL'd component to be public, the GPL is simply not usuable in most corporate environments.

Well said. The GPL is hardly usable as it is, with the forcing of the releasing of source code, which may contain commercial trade secrets. An addition that prevents all DRM'd software and all patented software from using the GPL would just push it over the edge as a political statement with an agenda, more than a software license.

I quickly rolled down my window and spewed out my mouth's contents as quickly as possible.

I disagree, there is plenty to do and learn. For instance, we could learn the difficulties in setting up greenhouses in an environment lacking our atmosphere. Or finding ways to grow plants in soil different from ours. Or finding ways to keep a human-friendly environment with food, oxygen, water, plants, exercise, and so on, on a foreign environment.

These learned things could be applied largely to Mars once learned on the Moon.

In addition, the moon is much nearer to Earth, meaning less time, money, and energy would be spent setting up a base on the moon rather than on Mars.
