  1. Re:Kodak's Future... on Kodak Sues HTC and Apple · · Score: 2

..snipped... The thing that surprises me, a bit, about Kodak's fall from grace is that being a film titan, at their prime, involved substantial chemical manufacturing capacity and expertise. Was that non-transferrable to some other area of chemical production, or did they somehow get rid of their boring-but-solvent departments in some strange reorganization scheme? Same question would go for any departments involved in optics, industrial imaging, etc.

Yes, they sold off most of their sustainable viable technologies. See Eastman Chemicals for example.

  4. Best way to setup an extra computer as a firewall? on How Secure is Windows Firewall? · · Score: 1
I have a small home lan with a cable modem, linksys router, linksys Wireless AP, two desktops running Win XP and one laptop running Win2000. I know I should be using a firewall but I really do not want the extra overhead on my desktops as I us them for gaming.

Every time the topic of firewalls come up I become interested in setting up an old AMD Athlon 1ghz box I have on the shelf, as a firewall for the network, but I'm unsure of the best way to accomplish this.

I'm a Linux Newb, and other than playing around with a Mandrake for a few weeks a couple of years ago I have no experience with it.

What is the easiest/best way to setup an extra PC as a firewall in the network? Can I use the same PC as my network file server? Or should the file server always be seperate from the firewall?

Are there arny FAQ's covering this geared towards a linux newbie?

  5. Zoning is about comfort as well... on DIY HVAC · · Score: 1

Personally I'm interested in adding something along these lines to increase the comfort in my home. I have a 1964 Built Side-split home, and the upper floor with bedrooms is always much warmer than the lower floor family room. This is a problem in the winter with heating and in the summer with cooling. The house has upgraded windows and attic insulation, but the temperature variations make it difficult to keep all levels of the house comfortable. Adding something along the lines of this project could really make a difference.

I remember years ago that rapidly flashing your high beams would have the same effect. Of course it would draw the attention of others (like police!), but it was effective and handly late at night when no one else was around.

This computer is perfect for an application I currently have in a piece of industrial equipment. I have very limited space and I want to tuck away a pc in a hidden location. Also I think the plain aluminum case will be easier to mount than more stylish mini pc's such as the Cappucino TX-3.
