Update - all of the people we used to work for at AT&T have been canned. They expect 15-20k in layoffs from this. Again - this is in direct response to the FCC.

  3. Re:Markets on AT&T to Leave Residential Business · · Score: 1

mods take note: This is a DIRECT result of the FCC deciding not to renew discount reseller rates, and the Supreme Court not supporting AT&T's contention that they should be continued. Local exchange carriers can build their own LD interconnects, and have their own contracts, LD carriers cant get access to the local networks (which AT&T used to own fyi) and can no longer offer these services. This is not a management, technology, or marketing issue - its a legal one.

well for starters, you need to look at the actual amount of money being brought in. They are actually talking about an extremely small amount of money. 50 something million dollars spread around isnt that much - so maybe this is a tax not on the software but on the SALE of the software? Could someone confirm that I am correct? In large transactions for custom installations, you have to tax the consulting time, but not the actual product its self right? While I dont agree with ANY taxes to begin with, this isnt as terrible and awefull as everyone is making it out to be - its just another tax. If you dont want them, dont vote donk ;)

Not all versions of the SNAP servers run with IDE drives, just the SOHO devices from what I can tell. Also - im at the point now where I have spent so much cash on replacing SCSI drives in large disk arrays for file storage, that I dont really see a problem with using high quality SATA drives with the proper failover protection. Ill still have to replace drives, and possibly even more drives than before, but at least I get larger storage space, and the drive by drive cost is much lower. Now - can someone build a cheap solution for my databases?

NY, NJ, PA, CT, and MA have 60 day turnaround on DNC (do not call lists) There is of course a huge problem with these do not call lists. People move, people buy new phone lines, etc etc. If you move, you are not on it anymore. If you get a new phone line, you are not on it anymore. If you are unlisted, I still have your phonenumber, and credit rating, etc etc etc. Its not so fun. Still, lets put this all in perspective. The RBOCs keep rather substantial DNC lists, which will eventually be rolled into the state and national DNC infrastructure. These lists cover less than 1 in 10 residential households. OH - and I forgot, if you look at the Telemarketers revenue, 247 billion or what ever that is, thats a good number. 1/50th of the US GDP. Thats a pretty important line of business.
