    Most people who identify as Christians have no problem with evolution or science. Really. Religion a separate thing for them.

    I have worked at places (such as national labs) with thousands of scientist and engineers, with people who identify as Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, etc. All religions with creation stories. But they all accepted big bang model, evolution, etc.

    sure they can. Regular ol' cops can cuff your corpus. cops can body cavity search your corpus. cops can throw your corpus including ass in jail for a day or even more under certain conditions. Homeland security cops can disappear your corpus and torture it.

    no, the value of a social network is having some people that you can meaningfully communicate with, and enjoy communicating with them.

    A social website of one's own will be more useful, for having real friends. Very easy to set up, non-computer great-grandmas do it in minutes.

    my phone company doesn't write down my conversations and sell them to interested telemarketers based on content. my phone company doesn't bring strangers to the front door based on things I've said on the phone or who I've dialed.

    yes, and more importantly, they'll have new opportunities for selling marketing data and data mining services.

    Everyone should drop the facebook, and get their own virtual host website for less than $5 a month, and put pictures and have comments / blog there. Or set up a web server at home and use a free dynamic dns, it's good geeky fun. plenty of my-website-in-a-can packages out there.

    BSD doesn't shine on the high-end SMP machines. FreeBSD's website even has a warning about SMP and high loads, that it might seize up.

    Now I prefer BSD on my servers, but they're not 8-way or more.

    thorium doesn't spontaneously release neutrons. It emits alphas, and its decay products emits alphas and betas until one winds up with lead.
     
    To get a thorium reactor going requires neutrons from critical configuration of enriched uranium or plutonium. There also has been research into initiating the breeding cycle of thorium with protons, but that's never been developed into ongoing reactor cycle.

    my wife and kids have macs, but I find "using the unix" in it a bit weird from the command line. also one thing that annoys the hell out of me is that the fsck doesn't fix all hfs filesystem problems, but there are some third party wares costing money that can.

    The author used energy for production of an aluminum bicycle from refined ore with frame, fenders and rack (I don't know about you, but my bike and the ones I see all day have neither fenders nor rack).

    Aluminum and steel are heavily recycled because the cost of initial refining so very energy intensive recycled aluminum only takes 5% of the energy.

    On another note, with care bicycles have long life. My 12 speed bicycle is 30 years old, I just put new kevlar tires on it, looks like I have to think about new brake shoes in the five years at current wear rate.
