    nope, most handguns only holds 5 to 19 projectiles that go 1,000 fps. Even most concealable submachine guns hold 15 to 30 rounds and same velocity. Over half the people shot in a quick attack will survive. You can get a whole lot more projectiles moving a whole lot faster with a properly designed bomb.

    the main hassles of my flying are caused by u.s. government (homeland security), not by the airlines.

    I speak of the government and laws, and you are talking of airline rules. And you might be interested to know that right now you can transport guns and crossbows on an airplane legally in checked baggage, following airline procedures. And someone who observes the erosion of U.S. citizens rights over the last 40+ years is a "paranoid freak" in your mind? You make a good brainwashed sheep there, sheep. Line up for your shearing.

    I disagree that investigators must have ID to start with for an investigation. Let them start with nothing other than the facts of the crime. The core of the matter is that we're allowing our government to assume we are criminals, which is evil and the basis of a police state. By default, the government does NOT need to know who I am or what I am doing. However, we've raised two generations of SHEEP who submit to whatever the government says without question, and who do not know what freedom is.

    variable sized buffers have even more opportunity for errors and make more ways a program can fail (the problem of potential buffer overflow remains, and now you can have memory leaks, for starters).

    don't confuse the registers you deal with in x86 assembler with the real internal architecture of the chips as they are made nowadays. There ARE general purpose "registers" in there for various stages of emulating the x86 by the very RISC-like real iron.

    an impeachment is only a statement of charges, does nothing more. The spineless cowards in congress would be the ones to do that, except they won't. They would lose their treasured power and prestige in Washington were they to do that.

    the funkiest one with "element zero" was the "galaxy" periodic table linked in a slashdot article a while back. The other one's I've seen were posters a couple decades ago, and also the neutron and proton have been listed in periodic tables

    since this is slashdot, maybe some information about women might be helpful. They don't make a conscious decision where and when to stop and resume menstruation. for example, if they happen to be on top a car they don't think "gee, I think I better stop menstruating since I'm on a nice foreign car, but I'll then resume five minutes after I climb down". Otherwise I'd ask my wife, could you please shut down for tonight so we can have some fun. Hope this helps.

    there's plenty of single command tools for throwing an /etc/init.d service into the runlevels all in one swoop for all the common Linux distros. And we can poke fun at some of the *bsd for spreading the startup into /usr/local/etc/rc.d too That said, I prefer the BSD for servers, most admin stuff is scripting and you can set up a SyS V type runlevel structure in any of the BSD if that's what floats your boat.

    22 year olds can't hunt with a scoped rifle in the UK? (without night sight, I'm sure) They can over here in US, only difference between hunting rifle and sniping rifle is whom you point it at. My Steyr model L had a two stage trigger, set the back trigger and front had 4 oz pull. Nice for deer, sniper would like it too

    cool new storage mechanisms out there, including ultracapacitors. couple with efficient (>90%) dc to ac converters and you've really got something. to have 1GW of usable energy delivered to homes requires over 3GW of oil/fossil fuel/nuke plant on the power station end. suppose your country is built on oil infrastructure and suddenly 33% of your supply which comes from the middle east disappears? store oil, replace oil, import from somewhere else, or die in that case too, and all those are very difficult for that amount of oil
