In my younger days I had anger management issues this was pre-mega-violent FPS most games were still on Nintendo or Sega Genesis.
It seems I'm less likely to explode these days, though I am not correlating that as being a benefit of violent games, I'm sure age and having a kid have way more to do with that. Still I do enjoy the outlet.
Remember when servers advertised hacks were allowed. I used to love those servers cause you could test your hacks against hacks others had made to see whose were better.
I do the same. I recently purchased and gave away 3 extra copies of a game. I bought it on Steam, I liked it and liked it so much I decided to support those that made it by giving it to friends I know were too cheap to buy it. Even if they never play it I don't care the money went to a dev house that I was more than willing to support at $40 a pop.
To some degree though there is education, early FPS games and even games today, hell look at Minecraft and Garys Mod, both inspired from modding games they grew up playing. Todays modders are learning useful skills, photoshop, programming, design. Just to name a few. So while a majority may end up getting dumb entertainment out of it there are those that it will spark interest in.
I wouldn't be interested in computers today if it weren't for Doom and Quake and my using crap programs written for those games and thinking I could write something better. Or my simply playing them at a time when you actually had to set IRQ's manually.
Of course the reason could also be the lack of real skin in the game. You have zero chance of getting hurt unless you choke on something from laughing or fall from your chair, eyestrain maybe or carpal tunnel.
You would think yet even with our taste some might even say our lust for violence if you watch anything from Hollywood or pop tv, yet what we see are troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with PTSD due to being in combat.
Of 1 million troops returning, 46% went in for treatment of the 46%, 48% was diagnosed with PTSD nearly half of those that sought treatment had PTSD. So on some level "fake violence" is not interpreted by the brain as violence.

It indicates on some level the mind is conscious that a video game is just that and is able to not have lasting effects.
The GTA series in general has always given people an outlet. Ever wanted to hit a car that cut you off? Well in GTA it's perfectly ok for you to do it till your hearts content and it's out of your system. Just because I take great joy in forcing other drivers in GTA off the road doesn't mean I'll plow into the car next to me on the freeway.
Also of note is you could just remove your dash cluster and disconnect it from the back of the unit. Again no miles tick.
Sneaky people may get a second cluster you can pick em up from a scrap yard for less than $100 in most cases, use this one for driving so you retain all signals and the mileage ticks up, insert the other one for when you need to rack up some miles for taxes.
NOTE: It is usually illegal to do either of these as it reports fewer miles than is actually on the car, but you can bet people will be doing it. So while they may do it in order to avoid taxes the downside is the odometer will show lower mileage at sale time than the car actually has.
It's an omelet. Always has been. Google slashdot and omelet.
You've apparently not been here long enough to know of the omelet.
He'll win, according to copyright the photographer owns the rights to the photos.

You'll never look back on Perl.
I'm just waiting till the treasure trove that is the national ACA exchange gets hacked.
I imagine if/when it happens there will be no mention of it as it would mean every American registered in it would want heads to actually roll.

There you have it, it still allows you the option to play in the style you choose.
I do the same pretty much, I'll walk down the streets and anyone that talks gets it.
My wife smacked me the first time she saw me play GTA V, I was "WTF?" she said "I saw you stomp that poor cat".
That makes complete sense.

My favorite security researcher, come on we're nerds I know you have one too, is not even a US citizen not sure his nationality but he lives in Malta.

PC doesn't matter, I was pirating Playstation 2 games for my Playstation 2.
Hiding malware in hacks, mods is old hats, those that have been around awhile know the tricks.
Those that don't know learn quickly.

Keep in mind that fps still uses hitboxes, while modding the head may not mean 100% headshots, youd have to change the hitbox size.
Seriously that title came out in 1991 for Sega Genesis no less.

Keep in mind everything you just described went into the manufacture of your hybrid/electric car. Without them it wouldn't exist.
Also where is my subsidy for health effects from the mining/manufacturing pollution from your hybrid?
