Hi,
Yes I'm interested in the logs you have to offer for our research.
Can you tell me a bit more about the application itself ?
My email is arn129@psu.edu
Thanks and regards
Arjun
Nope there isn't anything more. I quit because I had reached a point where I hated my job. I wanted to get out as soon as possible. Also, applying to universities is a full time job. More so because I'm applying to around 10.
Several Reasons:
1) Its really tough to get into a good school. There are very few good grad schools and a huge number of applicants. 2) Doing an MS by research is not the norm here. 3) On the whole, higher education in the US and UK is better.
You're right about many of us Indians obsessing about higher degrees. Its part of our culture.
Here: More Education = More respect and status
I want to get back into academia because thats what I wanted to do when I graduated 5 years ago but couldn't because of financial constraints.
Now those constraints are gone and I can go back to doing what I wanted to.
Part of the reason is also that I simply hated my IT job even though it paid very well. It was simply too damn boring.
I don't like this. I know that everybody has their own style but I work in a commercial organization that writes Enterprise software and I can tell you that this would not have passed our code reviews. 1- The formatting is too tight. Not enough white space. 2- Complete absence of comments (big boo boo) 3- Poor indenting (affects readability) 4- Multiple statements on one line (usually a bad idea)
I grew up in India as well and I think this guy is full of shit.
Even today hundreds and thousands of Indians cue up at the US embassy for their visas.
Indian education is (IMO) backward and outdated and has been like this for years.
The only thing he's right about is the respect for acamedics that is peculiar to India. This happens even at a cost to sports and extracurricular activities (which btw isn't a good thing). And as with all things, even this attitude is changing.
Nowadays in India, its all about who's in IT and who isnt, who's earning the big-bucks and who isn't.
I didn't ask you to my job for me. All I asked for is if you've had any good/bad experiences or opinions with SVT and what they were./. would be a better place if you'd just read the post and reply meaningfully and tried not to be a moron.

This seems like good advice from someone with the relevant experience. Thanks ! I'll definitely keep these points in mind.
