First off all the satelite radio services suck. There is no diversity of music. Just the same crap that Clear Channel and the other big conglomerates push on us.
Secondly http://slimdevices.com/ has a really great OS product called SlimServer. Works over ANY networking that can be attached to a PC. Supports Linux and has a great hardware player.
I use SlimServer alot. It comes with a software version of the SqueezeBox 2 (which supports ssl tunneling), it can also transcode on the fly to a lower bitrate (must install lame). This is a fantastic feature. I rip my music to mps vbr and transcode to a suitable bitrate for my outbound streams. SlimDevices also has a great support list and most questions are answered in short order.
If so you can't stop them, all they need to do is compress the IP and email it out of the building. The best thing you can do is treat your employees well and when (not if) there is a problem deal with it accordingly.
And they are named Middle-Earth(no wep) and The Shire(wep). As I live in a rural area I'm not much concerned with war drivers. The one with the wep key is just to keep the other PC's in the House off of the WiFi that runs my SqueezeBoxes (Shameless plug for www.slimdevices.com).
I agree, my film scanner needs custom software to access all of the realy cool features (ICE 4) etc. And that software wasn't designed for Linux. However I'm sure the day will come...
You miss the point I don't want ANYTHING or anybody applying changes to production machines. I (we) are constantly updating security patches and virus signatures to be sure that the risks are minimal that a virus can get trhough. The only secure computer is one that has no access to the outside world and is in a locked room. Not very useful now is it. The original question was do you think that white knight viruses are a good idea. My answer is still no.
Next time you reply to a comment don't post as A.C. if you want to be taken seriously.
As a programmer responsible for production systems I don't want ANY untested programs on my (our) systems. We even (especially) test MS security patches to make sure that they don't break any functioning software systems.
I know that it's been said but I'll say it again. Get an external Modem. I personally preffer USR V.Everything Fax Modem. It ran right around $300US but it just simply works.
Do movie companies really think that the buying public is *THAT* stupid? Why would I want to buy a DVD that self destructs in 8 hours. Say I buy it leave it on the top of the TV until Friday open it up and find that it's dark due to a packaging malfunction? Who is going to refund my money? If the movie comapnies insist on this path I for one will not be buying DVD's
Borland has had this feature in Delphi since at least version 5. I don't use C++ Builder but I'm sure that it has a similar feature. This whole patent thing is out of control.
I agree. If cost is a concern then invest a little money in b/w bulk loading equipment. B/W processing is simple and inexpensive, for the most part you can all the film darkroom work in a changing bag. Invest in a film scanner, they start at around $250 US and a decent printer. Learn the basics, and do it the old fasioned way. It may seem like a longer road but you will be happier with the results in the end.
1) No Lotto,
2) No Smokes
3) Budwiser tastes like shit!
4) At least I have the courage to use my/. profile and not post as AC!
Gas has no reason to be $2 a gallon. That's my beef. Why not explore alternative fuels. The oil reserves won't last forever. I dislike having my way of life held hostage so that some big hot shot in Dallas can make an extra $1 million at my expense.
It dosen't go on sale in the US until 2006, would you want to drive on a 4 lane highway with tractor-trailers at 70+ MPH in that thing. It was bad enough in my Subaru Justy. I can't imagine how much that little thing would be "tossed" around by turbulance.
I don't normally respond to AC's but this needs to be addressed. CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF NOT ALL OF AMERICA LIVES IN A F*&%ING CITY. I live in rural Pennsylvania (most of PA is rural) I travel 40 miles round trip to work each day. I'm 44 years old I only make 1/3 of what you make. Gas is not cheap, I drive because I have too. There is NO PUBLIC TRANSIT. Stop being such a self centered left wing hypocrit and look beyond your own personal situation for once.
You mentioned that you checked out Delphi. I've been a reformed C/C++ programmer now for 5 years. I'll not go back if I can help it. Delphi 7/Kylix (shameless plug for Borland) is a cross platform OOP language. The best thing about Delphi is that it is a component based environment. Now, having said that , the tools are there to do all the bit-twiddling that you desire. Borland has taken great pains to seperate the developer from the api's of the target OS. A form for a Windows target behaves almost the same a form for Linux. The database components behave the same way (mostly) no matter the db server. There are a plethora of opensource components (check out project Jedi at SourceForge), if you buy the professional version or higher you also get the source code to the components you are using. This is just my 2 cents but having coded in everything from COBOL to FORTRAN, and dBase to C/C++ Delphi has the shortest learning curve, the largest library, a fantastic IDE and the most bang for your Buck. Good Luck.
Powdered sugar is too sweet. Most Americans like their food way to sweet. Being an American (and a Dragon), I can say this with confidence. If you doubt me look at the ingredients on a bottle of salad dressing... About Cymry, yes as an ethnic group(my last name is Owen), with a good dose of German as well. I have tried learing Welsh on the Web but...

Isn't there some kind of robot floor duster that looks like this?

Can any one say MicroSCOft...
This is way cool. All though now everyone knows how it works...

Compatibility is an important issue, but at some point shouldn't the ten-year-old programs run in a virtual environment separate from the OS?
However in reality, Bussinesses are tied to industry specific software and are at the mercy of the software vendor to provide timely updates.

It's about friggin' time. I'm tired of playground bullies holding us hostage. GO IBM!

No I don't when I bought my house I was only 5 miles from my job. But then life happened.
