Whoa Whoa Whoa... If I write a program that I find useful, to accomplish a specific task, or to automate tasks. If I then decide to share it with other programmers/administrators. Please clarify, how is that stupid?
If you don't like the opensource community, then go purchase your M$ licenses, and make sure you have one for every machine you run. If M$ descides to go in another direction and disallows the playing of say...MP3s on their platform, don't bitch about it. They wrote it, they control it.
If I find a problem with a piece of opensource software, I write a patch, or notify the lead developer. If I find a problem with M$ software, I'm up shits creek...And I have to buy a license for the paddle.

Umm then how would you explain it? If you say divine intervention... how do you explain dinosaurs?

On that note why don't they release every os version that isn't their current flavor of the week.
As for WINE, I like to drink lots of it while I use it.
They will never release MS os code under the GPL or something similar to it. Bill's head would explode if they gave anything away for free without some path to proft...Fun to watch, but not going to happen.

One problem with having one number, You can order a copy of your birth certificate by mail for a few dollars, or for that matter, I can order your borthcertificate for a few dollars. Now that I have a birthcertificate, I can goto the local Social security office and get a copy of "my" SS Card. I can now goto the local DMV and get a duplicate license. I am now you.
I was amazed at just how easy it was to get a copy of a birth certificate. I had to get a copy of our daughter's. I called that state and asked what I had to do. Just goto our website and fill out the required information was the answer I got. To get a copy of your social security number you need a copy of your birth certificate. To get a license... Your starting to see the pattern. No ID system is perfect. Maybe I should just disappear into the mountains of CO...but I'd have to pay for connectivity somehow... hmm with my new license, I'll apply for a Credit card, yeah thats it.
