Mandrake is a RPM based system as is redhat. I used to run mandrake, and used redhat rpms to install. I haven't run mandrake in a few years, but I imagine things haven't changed that much.

You can also test your app's load handling ability (which is also based on the hardware). It has a learning curve, but any good web guy can figure out the interface with a little playing.
Kind of like logging snort output to a mysql db, and running nessus on anything you find thats questionable, but without the mega dollar outlay for software.
