  1. Why Shouldn't it :-P on Immunizing the Internet · · Score: 2, Interesting

Harry Harrison makes exacly this argument in his Stainless Steel Rat series. As long as no-one gets physically hurt, the banks pass on the loss to their insurers, the police have what to do, the media what to report, the general public is entertained and the money is put back into circulation. So in theory, "everybody benefits".

Of course, real-life doesn't work like that. Just look how every little imaginery threat is currently used by the PTBs to further clamp down on the innocent general public.

I can't find any hard numbers on how much this thing cost. Can anybody help?

  4. Exactly on Using The Web For Linguistic Research · · Score: 0

English isn't my first language, so I often use Google to verify the use of an expression by comparing the number of hits I get for various forms, or as a "spell-checker" by using Google "Did you mean" suggestions to correct my spelling mistakes.
Lately, I find that some mistakes have become so "popular", that I can't do this anymore, because Google now recognized the mistake as a "valid" search word.

  6. Re:Distribution on Israel's Finance Ministry To Distribute OpenOffice · · Score: 0

I don't know what the contents of the specific distribution mentioned in the article will be, but you can already download the Hebrew localized version of OpenOffice for Windows or Linux from the http://www.openoffice.org.il/ [Site in Hebrew]. English Installation instructions, for those that can't read Hebrew.

NOTE: this is the RC5 version. The final version will be released in the "next few days".

I find the anti-Israeli comments ironic, as one of the developers doing this project is a co-worker of mine. He is a Palestinian engineer.

  7. Computer Stew did it. on Cube House · · Score: 0

the really funny (but sadly defunct) Computer Stew web-comedy once had a Renovate Your Cube episode, in which they roofed over some guy's cude and panneled the walls etc, etc. John Hargrave, where are you now?

The fact that it's "been done before" is irrelevant. Things get "reinvented" all of the time. Sheesh, cow-orkers, or to quote my boss "If it weren't for the clients and the employees, this job would be perfect".
