    Its illegal to BUY the drinks, but parents are totally legally entitled to let their children (or 18-20 yearolds) drink at home.

    Even in australia a 16 yearold can drink beer at a resteraunt/party as long as their parent says its ok and they have had some food.

    Only the direct sale is illegal 18 or 21 , but drinking it is not illegal.

    if java/c# is so great, why isnt there one VM running that handles the whole genome desktop with all its apps.

    we could then have a 20meg genome install :)

    String class is very powerfull and has powerfull functions/limits/options.

    Maybe JPL should think of how to do stuff CHEAPER!!!!! rather than to do stuff the most expensive way.

    Hell, outsource to india/china ;-)

    Is 90% of the cost man hours/labour? ie all those scientists working overtime getting 80k/year? or 15% of staff are managers?

    Or does JPL have lots and lots of red tape? checklists?

    How many CRTs does jpl have? replace all with LCDs and install 50,000 sqm of solar cells to save on powerbills.

    Do what model-t ford did, manufacture stuff in bulk, no one off stuff, make things interchangable like PCs.

    Bull crap

    why is it that downloading a 1meg file full of ZEROS still takes ages on a modem? beause its dictionary size is small! and it wont go back very far.

    If the WHOLE CONTENT is compressed, then transfered its a hell better. Hence, those 80k html files can compress to 5-10k make a big difference.

    images, who cares, unless you do on the fly jpeg2000 compression, or reduce normal jpeg to 40%

    Government has infinite money, they borrow trillions, sell heaps of bonds, and have inflation which is like a hidden tax of 4-10% (ie increase money supply through credit causing price rises). They could have just made it dual use and used lots of navy/army money too, make 5 shuttles for the navy, and 5 for nasa, paint the navy ones grey too.

    Shuttle thrust = 1,500,000 *2 SME, and 3,000,000 *2 for BOOSTERS

    F-1 engines on Saturn = 1,500,000 each * 5.

    So the trust capacity of the shuttle is onpar with Saturn, so why do you need a Saturn!?!?!!? The shuttles engines are a decendant from Saturn. Btw the core of the shuttle engine is only about the size of a car engine, ie its main fuel pump, pumping 1 tonne/second of fuel into a 4inch nozzel.

    Im sure china could reverse engineer a saturn VI, with their spare 150,000 engineers working for $8/day.

    And they could do it in 6months and rebuilt 1000 new ones like ford plant for 1/100th the cost :)

    True, but 8bit 44100hz stereo is still GOOD QUALITY, which is 705600 bps, so it would handle it.

    Yes, 8bit 22000hz is shonky, but 44.1khz is still good, and headphones would average it out any way.

    Possible...!

    You could compress it with a week 2:1 compressor also, something very week.

    maybe so but we dont need a winamp screen saver, we only need color for about 30-100seconds while choosing the song, then it can BLANK out and save power and not use BL.

    If mobiles lasting 250hrs can use color, so can ipods.

    Outside usa, good old apple again makes their prices WAY TOO MUCH!!!

    Is it apple usa's fault for its export prices? or the importers fault for having exclusive import rights that jack the price up, then blame it on import duties/tarrifs and sales taxes and need to make a profit that it ends up 50% more?

    Its like in 1998 when a powerbook cost $7500 in AU, yet $2999 in USA, it was cheaper to fly to usa to pick it up instead of buying local.

    I have seen so many older ones and new ones just KARK it and die or just go real dark, or keep flashing syncs.

    They have to give you a new one thats restricted by software for its resolution, ie Imac DVD, 1024, yet the hardware/monitor can do 1280+

    Make a program that detects that the computer has been switched off for more than a few days (after seisure) and then it could assume, "ok why are we off? we never turn off at home, we must have been seised", 2. then the program can pop up a dialog asking some silly secret message, "Hey BOB, your 12:30am noodles are ready, OK / CANCEL" Hitting any of these two will ZAP THE HD/BIOS/VIDEOBIOS, and render the PC useless.

    Ofcourse you personaly will just kill the process. Tricky, but it would work if you personally never switch the PC off or have some double check to see that its still logged in via your ISP, not on a network inside the FBI/RIAA. Then again if the PC knows its running inside RIAA or FBI LAB, you could ran a allout virus attack/ipscan/DOS attack.

    True, but that means they have a LONG WAY to go for discounts, so they CAN AFFORD to sell down real cheap $3each.

    The usual excuse of is hogwash if the true cost is real low.

    Also if it costed 12cents to make a CD, then pirating is now such loss to them is it.

    If the rich $8m/year exec gets a 12% bonus this year instead of his usual 30%, then im not gona cry about it, im sure he can live with 1 buttler instead of 2.

    I guess the 'market' is too stupid to accept this price and should stick it up their asses.

    If its 1am, im not going to go to a 24.7 shop to buy a CD and drive at night. 3 clicks and 6minutes later its in my music folder.

    Besides 1/2 the techno/trance music I want will never be in the shop any way so what do I do? Wait 3 weeks for delivery?
