  1. Re:Whatever became of this technology? on Mac Version of NaturallySpeaking Launched · · Score: 1

My mother and I bought a copy of this software for our pastor as he was not fond of typing. As I recall, this was back in the Windows 95 days. I still remember testing it out first since the pastor would inevitably have questions. I cannot remember a time in my life since then that I have laughed so hard. The words dragon interpreted that we were saying were hilarious. We uninstalled it and gave it the pastor under one condition: that my mother and I were allowed to be there when he configured it. Man, good times.

  2. I worked at Lowe's one summer... on What Do People in the IT Field Do for Side Jobs? · · Score: 1

as seasonal help. Having no working knowledge of the type of "hardware" Lowe's sells, I ended up a cashier (the only male one in the store). It was a blast as I did not have to think about computers at all for 4 or so hours. My only worries was if it was going to be raining at closing time when we had to push all the carts in from the parking lot. It also got me out of the "free" computer repair service most of my family and friends think I run.

If you want to hear tired cliches, just become a bowler. I have heard the same tired jokes for 20+ years. When I call people on it, they just say that they are still funny. Guess that is why I quit this year.

I had this discussion with a friend of mine yesterday. He didn't know what "unlawful duplication" meant (nor did he care). You cannot legislate morality.

I recently downloaded over 100 mp3s from pastemusic.com legally. Great stuff. One of the sad things about P2P mp3 sharing is only the "popular" music gets shared, leaving some truly great music undiscovered.

  5. When I compared the 2... on Motherboard Audio Comes Of Age · · Score: 1

I had 2 Dell's (Dimension 4500 and 4550). One had onboard sound and one had whatever sound card was the base model. I have a set of 3 piece Cambridge Soundworks speakers. I started the same mp3 file (one with sufficient bass) on both systems and just plugged the speakers into each system and my wife and I could not tell the difference. That is when I knew that it wasn't worth it for me to shell out the extra dough for the seperate sound card.

  6. Resell the OEM for a profit? on Buying a Small, Light Linux Notebook Computer? · · Score: 1

Why don't you but the PC you want and take out (1) screw (pun intended) and sell the OEM license with that screw for the approximate cost of the license. You (technically) haven't given any money to MS then (the person you sell the license too will have). Just a thought. I haven't read the EULA lately for OEM but you used to be able to do this?
