The cure for SARS is chicken noodle soup, Dayquill and a Sprite.

And on a slightly related topic, if we want to take over a few more countries, all we have to do is rub Chinese people on some blankets and give the blankets as peace offerings.

A historical note on Christmas is that it was originally the holiday Saturnalia celebrated in Rome. Then Constantine made the official religion to be Christianity, and remade all of the pagan holidays into Christian ones. Jesus would not have been born in the winter, due to the fact the Bible states that there were shepherds out. Easter is also named after a pagan god. Something else you may find interesting is that the Wise Men did not visit Jesus in the manger as is popular belief, but actually when he was about 2 or 3.

Even if there are holes in macro-evolution, you can't ignore micro-evolution. That has been clearly documented. I will give you two popular examples right now: the finches on the Galopagos (sp) Islands, and those moths in England that were primarily white and became primarily black. Microevolution is very stong evidence for the possibility of macroevolution. Now I believe in God, but the bible does not say how old the Earth is. And don't you find it interesting that in Genesis, the Bible describes the Earth being created exactly the same way that scientists believe it to have been created? First the heavens and the earth. Then the water and the land. Then the sea animals. Then the land animals. Then the sky animals. Then man. There are also connotations that cannot be understood by us today. Perhaps the word for "day" actually was understood as "period of time" or "eon" or something like that. Who's to say that God didn't use evolution? While it is true that evolution is a theory, your views are also theory. This means that neither one can be proven, and for all anyone knows both could be wrong.

Dude, there are 2 continents that fall under the name "America." We don't call Mexicans or Canadians "Americans," so why should we, who live in the United States of America be called Americans? Is someone from Brazil called an American? If you can come up with a better name than "USians" I'd like to hear it.

"but it's better that a billion repented criminals die than that one child should suffer." A billion repented criminals? Are you serious? So you're saying, that any number of people who have gone to jail, done their time and paid their debt to society should die rather than one single child? Especially if they have repented, which means they have learned their lesson, will not become repeat offenders, and will become productive members of society. Once they've paid their debt, they become innocent civilians again, just like you or me. Can you really say you would rather have "a billion" adults die rather than one child? What is the point of that?

"to negate one proves the other."
I disagree. They are both theories, and while there is evidence to support both, we could still be construing the facts we have to be wrong. What if aliens genetically constructed the earth as their terrarium, and real life is created in a completely different way than we think? What if the universe was laid by a giant bird? I know I'm being nitpicky, but I'm just saying that there aren't two absolutes.

  8. It depends on what it is on Delivering an Earth-Shattering Discovery? · · Score: 1

If it really is an "earth-shattering" discovery (time travel, proof of a god, free energy, etc) then there will invariably be people who will want to keep this idea from coming to light, and it will still have the same societal effects 5 years from now. If it is a completely unthought of idea before now, that at least the possibility should be made public. Obviously I can't think of any situation that would not have been thought of before, but if the discovery maker were to write a book about the possibility of such an event, then at least some discussions would ensue, and people could somewhat prepare. The means of protecting the discovery would also depend on the discovery itself, although most likely any sort of discovery would involve diagrams or instructions, so that multiple copies could be made. First some sort of failsafe would have to be created in the event that you die. A copy could be mailed to a lawyer with instructions to read upon your death. It would be up to the discoverer to monitor the discussions concerning the idea, and perhaps come to a new conclusion concerning the discovery. If it becomes apparent that the human race will be unable or even unwilling to accept such a discovery, and such an introduction could cause massive societal disruption, then, unless the discovery is truly that important, it may be the responsibility of the discoverer to distroy the evidence and hope that it can be discovered again when the human race is ready.
