a little over a year ago i switched from x86/linux to ppc/osx mainly because it was easy and i could get my parents using mac as well and slowly ween them from wintel. over this past year i've grown more and more disgusted with all things wintel and have rarely used my linux box (even though i love linux for the most part).
but now, i fear, i will be switching again. i see no need to pay for a special-built machine that is no longer all that special. sure it may still have cutting-edge components, but my old x86 box had SATA RAID built-in along with a slue of other features i didn't really use. and i can make a shiny case, which is about all mac has to offer after this besides os x.
now the real question is what shall i switch to? i guess there's amd/linux, but i'm sure amd will be hopping on the drm band-waggon in full-force soon.
i agree, a new protocol designed to prevent spam is a lot less frightening than the possibility of my router, modem, etc 'thinking different' (ie, exhibiting very palladium-esque features). personally i think we should all be allowed to do what we wish with our hardware, even if that does give spammers the right to spam.
... now the admin at my school is going to get scared and block every port known to man.

As it happens, I'm lucky enough to live in the UK, so I can at least choose from 4 BBC Radio stations, where we at least get hear some diverse, new and unsigned talent. Wheres yours?
our radio sucks. there's no two ways about it. but we do have plenty of "new and unsigned talent" and even a lot of our signed talent is pretty good. there are plenty of music labels that aren't evil (yet).

i agree, america is very stupid when it comes to religion. (and for some reason people seem to think that the whole "under god" thing has been around since 1776... which, of course, it hasn't).
i guess i'd have to agree with you (and the other's here) who complain about america's tolerance... but this got started as a discussion on culture, which i feel we do have a good deal of.
