Yeah, I know, but the basic premise of a 2-dimensional spectrum is sound. I stumbled across a much better test a while ago, but I couldn't find it again for this post. Oh well.
"It's a little like taking your best point-scorer out of the ball game."
Actually, its very different. In a ballgame, that scorer is on your side, and they help you win (at the expense of the other team). In the economy, everyone is more or less competing, so that one person's obscene greed comes at the expense of everyone else.
That alone is not an argument to take them out of the game, however. It's to the economy's benefit that some people are richer than others, but how much is too much ? The problem is that past a certain point, one can wield wealth and power to their own benefit and the result will actually be detrimental to society. Ex : Insider trading, monopolies, collusion, undue political influence, etc. Obviously we enact laws to try to stop these things... but those laws can be changed. That is the real concern here : that some people will become so wealthy and powerful that they can tip over all of our checks and balances.
Has anyone else noticed that a disproportionate number of "cool-techonology" things rely on the letter "X" ?
Begin Rant: XML, XGA, x86, X.25, Xmodem, XP & OSX (each borrowing from XEROX), XT, XOR, XXX (in every computer ?), 3DFX, and because this is Slashdot I should flame Microsoft for DirectX and ActiveX.
But the unix community deserves most of the blame. After all we have Linux, Unix, and other variants which we want to be POSIX, not to mention the grand-daddy of them all: an entire window system which we simply call "X", which perpetuates this sort of thing, because whereas we previously had terminals and clocks we now have x-terminals and xclocks. Indeed, thanks to the "X Window System" we can rename all of our programs, SOME OF WHICH DID NOT PREVIOUSLY INCLUDE THE LETTER X.
But it goes much deeper. Just look at what we call supersonic jets, radiation, and chemical elements. As if that were not enough, we have set the millions of people in math courses around the world to the mysterious task of trying to find "x". The worst part is, as soon as you've figured out what x is, in the very next problem IT COULD BE SOMETHING ELSE !
So I am asking slashdot when will this maddness end ? When can we turn our attention to the other "unpopular" letters, like "q", "w", and "p" ? Despite their consistent sponsorship of Sesame Street, these letters yearn for the attention currently squandered on "x". Is it too much to ask that we all run wclock ?
My only point was this : in mathematics, you can ask some questions and get complete, definite answers. On the other hand, the Atomic Rabbit claimed that science provides no definite answers to ANY questions. This is false, if you consider mathematics to be a "science". Here are a few examples to illustrate my point.
Q : How many prime numbers are there ? A : Infinitely many.
Q : When is a connected, undirected graph bipartite ? A : When it has no odd cycle.
Q : For any positive integer n > 2, are there three non-zero positive integers x,y,z such that x^n + y^n = z^n ? A : no.
Maybe thats why the article says "trillion"
Damn, now I can't watch my favorite movie.
This is a great troll.

Maybe you have a point: Any COULD have tried this, and some did (Japanese Americans in WWII, anyone?). Thats not a reason to apologize for it.
The usual liberal/conservative categorization is extremely misrepresentative. Try this.
You don't need more copyright law with DRM; you need less.
...And dictatorships don't need nearly as many laws as a democracy.
This is getting interesting.

...mentions porn it gets modded up just because it's somewhat taboo.
Hmmm, I bet you don't have any porn. Most people here probably do, and their comments and jokes about porn are not so much immature as they are sad.
Try searching google, using the source of the text. Works wonders.
look at the numeric keypad
1) ???
2) Start war with Iraq
3) Profit!
I'm confused, doesn't slashdot post random hoaxes now ?
Apple to sell PCs, no longer interested in "thinking different".
I liked this one too : "In networks protected by firewalls, it is axiomatic that all attackers are on the outside of the firewall. "
Widely known value of Pi in error, actually 3.15...
I thought the Gentoo one was pretty good.
At least we know, because real articles are usually posted twice.
Argh! You are right. I meant "180".
That's ok, it was indistinguishable from the other arguments on slashdot, many of which do multiple 360's.
Besides, it is a great buzz word!!!

It was entertaining, I laughed all the way through it.
I have a Klein bong...
+1 (wishful thinking)
Indeed, look where we live.
