    ... we were all getting nostalgic about 1980s 8 bit machines , cursing the huge power of the 95 era PC and how it had ruined the imagination of games designers who only cared about 3D and no gameplay etc etc and how OS's were just sucking up power and not using it:

    "Hey , just look what CPM could do on a 3Mhz Z80 and now look - it takes a 66Mhz 486 for Win95 to do the same thing! Ha ha! Lame!"

    Etc.

    If I wanted to type a 10,000 word document or play a complex RPG I'd take that 1995 PC over a smartphone anyday. Sure , the smartphone has much better hardware but from a usability point of view it leaves a lot to be desired compared to PC or any era.

    Plenty of things in the computer world are crap, but generally the alternatives are even worse. HTML5 sucks right now. When its stable then sure, it'll replace flash, but in the meantime forget it.

    And did I mention farmville or facebook or any of that sh1t? I like watching TED thanks and if you think I'm forking out $$$$ for an overpriced netbook without a keyboard that Jobs got all you bleeting sheep to buy just to view some websites which I can already view on a PC with a free plugin then you're fscking dreaming.

    Anyway , you'd better hurry up, I hear the next pilgrimage bus to Cupertino is leaving soon...

    Well sorry I'm but it shouldn't be. Any critical systems should have backup systems such as using cellphone towers to triangulate or LORAN or even just plain old maps. Any society which puts all its eggs into a basket that can easily be knocked over is just asking for trouble.

    No , its says its *MASS* is 6.5 times that of earth. Given its much larger volume its gravity won't be anything like that. Gravity is a result of mass divided by volume, not just mass on its own. Otherwise Jupiter would have a gravity of about 300G , not just 2.5 and the sun would collapse into a black hole.

    Well thats how Mars lost its water. The reason it doesn't happen on earth is we have the ozone layer which prevents enough UV getting to the lower atmosphere and the ground to split the water.

    Mind you , thinking about it - if this planet did end up with a lot of O2 in its atmosphere it would probably end up with an ozone layer too and the process would stop.

    Don't know to TBH , I'm not a chemist. But some will undoubtedly escape before it can react with anything. Given the low density of the planet its unlikely its gravity is much greater than earths so H2 won't have a hard time escaping the atmosphere.

    Even if it doesn't spiral into the star the UV will be slowly splitting the water into its component parts and the hydrogen will disappear off into space. What happens to the O2 after that is anyones guess - perhaps it'll react with whatever rock is there or perhaps it'll end up as a huge oxygen atmosphere.

Whatever politicians say, they don't really care how much the average citizen has to cough up for public services. They simply care that they can spend less on them so they have more money to waste on pointless wars so they can be best buddies with the USA (yeah, right) or subsidising undeserving "asylum" seekers and their 10 kids.
