Yea, even in the US they use the 24 point system sometimes. Otherwise my 178 would be completely meaningless. Then again it's possible they just kind of guessed.
I too hope you are kidding. An educated populace is required for a Republic to operate. If we allow the less intelligent to become a class of ignorant then they will become fodder (more so than they are now) for the media and those who control any given segment of the media. Once you have a large enough ignorant populace and strong enough control over the media message then the Republic is dead as the mob will vote for whatever it's told to vote for.
Yes, that's a worst case serious but the two key factors in making sure we don't end there is to keep the plebes educated and keep the media as free from centralized control as we can.
You were lucky then. I was so bored that it actually harmed the administration's perceptions of me enough that they wouldn't let me into the gifted programs (bored == doesn't care about homework == barred from program).
The only thing that pulled me out of that mire is that I consistently blew the doors off every test they gave me. Still wouldn't let me into the gifted program. I hold that school system up as a poster child for the wrong way to do things.
I honestly think we need to add a new type of intellectual property to the mix. A 'Character'. This would specifically cover any portrayal of a fictional character created by someone. Make that one able to be owned by corporations and have a scaled extension system ($10/year for the first five years, then doubles every fifth year thereafter).
That would take care of Superman, Mickey Mouse, Harry Potter, and the other 'but we must extend copyright' issues.
Then take Patents and make them not applicable to Software, Algorithms or Business Practices.
Then take Copyright and put it back to the initial limits (up to 14 years) and put a reasonable price on that one.
They actually did describe how that works elsewhere (and of course now I can't find the video). Yes, you can send a single unit back in time to create an 'army of one' but the resources required to send a unit back are never less than the resources to just build another unit so it's not a cost effective strategy resource-wise though it can be valuable time-wise.
The magic of the Information Age however allows removal of barriers to entry and nearly free ($0.30 per copy) publishing and distribution. This allows the $1 game to be bought by anyone who thinks it's worth $1 to them.
Apple takes 30% so for someone to make $1.2m they need to sell $1.56m in games. For $1 apps that's one and a half million but for a $10 game that's only 150K - which is barely into 'hit' territory for box shelf games.
If you have a game that's good and garners decent amounts of attention then you'll make millions on the iPhone. Thus the PR firm - to make sure your product gets noticed.
Full disclosure I work for a game studio that's doing iPhone games. No we don't use a PR firm as our products are good enough we don't need to.
The average game programmer does that for around $60K. You only make 80K as a game programmer if you're a Senior (thus no longer average) or you live in an amazingly expensive area (San Francisco).
That's why I'm glad that my cable company is quite upfront: They tell you not only what speed but how much bandwidth (in GB/Mo) you have. If you go over that they can and will lower your speed to something that allows only web browsing.
The fact that they told me that up front (and I chose my plan based on my own usage history) makes me quite content even with the caps.
His version of enforcing immigration laws goes way beyond the actual laws. You should have heard his press conference when he lambasted DHS because they told him to let some people go that he'd arrested quite against current law or immigration policy.
Only until Uranium goes up in price enough to make extracting it from seawater cost effective. Then we'll have enough to last a few thousand years.
not if you burn them up in a Thorium cycle reactor.
Only for another year or two. Verizon's moving to LTE along with everyone else.
You can use a data cable to get pics off a verizon phone to a PC.
My college allowed 18 without permission and 24 max. Some people did 24 and did very well with it.
It's all about how well you can organize your time and which classes you're taking.

1.5 x 0.8 == 0.8 + 0.4 2.5 x 0.8 == 0.8 + 0.8 + 0.4

Leave Trade Secrets and Industrial Designs alone.
The amount of solar energy per m2 outside the Van Allen Belt is far more than what we get here on earth.

It's not. It's worth $1.

That depends on if you take your wi-fi with you.

Skype is locked to wifi only.
Supercomputer OS's have been doing it for a while.
They don't need to. Once you can prove to a judge that you've made 'all reasonable efforts' (including the C&D letter) you get to sue their asses off.
GE Money Bank
There's your problem.
There's no money in linux games. You need to sell enough copies to pay for the dev time to port it.
I for one would consider being forced to live in a tent in 115 degree heat as 'cruel'.

Hey! We've got sane people too! They just aren't in charge.
