Because EFI has its own filing system that lives on a reserved part of the hard disk, it can become the standard home for a whole set of utilities that have always had an awkward fit with the BIOS
I my experience any thing with removeable parts or that moves, has a high chance of failing. With the current system trouble shooting is simplified somewhat by systems living in their own hardware. If systems start being shared across hardware components the risk of errors rises at at a rate inversly proportional to the ability of humble tech to resolve problems in a reasonable amount of time.
Imagine the tech support responses you would get then!
.: My machine wont boot
:: Throw it away and purchase a new Intel(tm) Machine
Welcome to Planet Mirco$oft/Intel, We own where you want to go today.
What of the companies that are using the media to backup their data.?
Should these companies be forced to increase their consumables costs and have to cut spending on other areas of IT because somebody with no idea (hasn't bought music since it was vinal, gets it all free through work) thinks that little timmy might be able to make a copy of a cd he owns?
Why dont they go the next step and ask the companies that make the blank media for the money?
The cynic in me thinks that they are already making money out of this, if not then why didn't they levy on the sale of cassettes or VCR's
Not everyone has the same goals that you do.
Some people just want to be famous, and besides if it is real micro$oft will probably have already bought it.
Without media all first worlds populace would become uneducated, meaning democracy would become an even bigger farce and government would be able to do what ever they want without anyone ever knowing. They could for example go against the wishes of the global community and start wars in the name of peace not even understanding the paradox.
If there was no media then the power of the people is about the same as the power of a herd of cows.
