    The only reason that GNU is named that way is because Stallman's point for starting GNU is to create a complete free UNIX-like OS. He also wanted to extend the OS... Therefore GNU could be read like this as well, Gnu is not Unix, but something different

    Switching back isn't a pain, as long as you use both regularly you can become fluent in both (it worked for me.)

    bleh. encryption. I mean, what if to use a key, a distribution put something like a modified GPG. and you had to put a key which would translate into a real key that the OS would confirm and install.

    Instead of complaining about how "the man is trying to screw me" or setting up p2p networks to distribute mp3's, I would suggest that people who are against the RIAA and music copyrights work to get the laws changed. We are, it's called civil disobediance.

    actually, the sun converts hydrogen into helium. When all of the hydrogen in the sun has been converted, the sun tries to burn off of the helium, therefore inflating it into a red giant.

    It says in the Mesa FAQ that it will be hardware accelerated with DRI when they decide to include it in XFree86

    They are making hurd because it is a good design, plain and simple. They have different design goals than Linux.

    When Linux didn't support any sound cards you weren't whining. People dislike GNU for some reason, I don't know why, Slashdotters whine and whine about how the FSF whines and whines about GNU/foo.

    Stop being hypocrites, Hurd is not GNU Mach, Hurd is aiming to be independent of GNU Mach, to be ported to a more elegant design like L4, if all of you people think it suck, why don't you help it? I thought this was the spirit of open source, no this is the spirit of Slashdot trolls.

    well, you actually are supposed to reformat, since linux and w2k use completely different file systems, ext2fs vs. NTFS or Fat32, I wouldnt really expect that to work.
