    Christie is trying to save the casinos,
    this should kill the town....

    Being first, Atlantic City had a lot of business, and it came hand in hand with a lot of stranglehold regulation......

    now that it's much more commonplace regionally, and the regulation is not so onerous say, in Philadelphia.. those locales are both 'newer' and not so stodgy.. The margin left over after the governmental regulations in place makes other areas a lot more profitable, edgy, and appealing.

    Having to build a 500 room hotel (AC), vs a poker & slot room only... (PA)

    When AC was it, short of Nevada or international venues, of course people flocked here...
      when they didn't have to travel as far, people didn't...

    I live 10 miles away... I go out (sans gambling) in the casinos.. it's different than it was 20 years ago.

    A casino just sold for 20 million..
    gads-- I could buy 10 decent hotels for that....

    why can't it transmit straight up only?

    there is no way to ensure the emissions are entirely (at detectable levels) in the direction away from ground sources?
    then you only have interception from countries with enough satellites to track that...

    cuts a lot of nations out....

    How difficult can it be do make a robot that runs around the prairie scooping up cowshit automatically?

    really? potty train cows, or build a machine to scoop shit...

    hell, considering what you could get the costs down to, implant a sensor on each cows ass that detects a fecal event, and spits out the gps location-- per unit you could likely get them down to less than $100 per cow, it would be comparable to branding them, the gps tracker could be used in other ways, and recycled to the next cow with battery changes & sterilization on the point of final processing....

    do the math.. a 1000 miles away (radius) equates 3,141,590 sq miles to track

    for something that occurs in 30 seconds... and has a cross section of a few feet.

    if you got my bank password... you could use online billpay to mail a check and cash it... if it was under a thousand, my bank wouldn't blink.

    so scenario.. I get a good set of identity papers, even just a license together for a lady who works all day

    I have, 10 account passwords at different banks and use online billpay to mail out 10 checks for $900 + odd amount checks.

    I swipe them from the mailbox of the lady who works all day....
    I cash them all on the same day- visiting 10 issuing banks...
    burn the ID

    yes, I see where that could fall apart in a few spots, but I'm not a professional grifter, a variation of it should be achievable.

    in fact, the first 4 or 6 identify the issuing bank

    further, all the digits have to work out to a specific checksum for it to work..
    the formula for this is readily available

    I am a small merchant, I do take credit cards.

    Prior to change, of my 1.3 million in sales, about 900k was in plastic each year.

    3 years ago, I started offering a 3% cash discount (cash discounts were allowable all along)
    now my plastic sales come in under 400k, and my net sales are comparable....

    My guests decide to pay or not..
    some do it for the miles... some do it 'cause it's a work issued card... it works for me and my clientel

    electricity, water, cable televison, internet connectivity-

    I like that I can choose an electricity supplier, if not connection... I can choose my long distance phone service readily.

    but if my electrical utility announced that they were going to be buying a sports team? how well do you think that would go over?

    I say, take the internet/comcast away from the FCC- and and put them entirely under PUC on a state by state basis.... where every rate must be agonized over... this and every service granted a near-ass monopoly with rights of way throughout the communities served..

    yea- exclude satellite services, they don't have government mandated cables stringing down my yard... comcast does...
