The PDF reader in Firefox is actually implemented in JavaScript. It's quite an achievement!
It doesn't bloat the software much; it's just a.js file that gets loaded when needed.
We are here not for achievements. We are here to stick to the KISS principle. Implementing the PDF reader in Prolog or COBOL would be an achievement too. It does not mean it's a good thing. Remember: just because it can be done, it is not necessarily useful to do it. If you want to prove you hacker skillz, great, go and do it on your own pet project. Or an addon. Not on a project with the scale of FireFox.
Btw, I never complained about FF consuming too much memory - until I started frequenting one site with a discussion forum with lot's of clever JavaScript (no, it's not/.). Now leaving the page open over the weekend means that on Monday the browser grows from usual ~300-400MB to 1GB of RAM. Just because something is written in JS does not mean that it does not lead to memory leaks.
Actually I find myself un-enrolled from the trial after several weeks. And I join it again. You know why? Because the video downloads full length rather than downloading a few minutes buffer ahead and hoping that I don't seek forward too much. Also with Flash it often happens that once the download stops because that small forward-buffer is full, it then fails to start again and it can only be restarted by full reload of the page and starting from the beginning. PITA.
Khan academy videos are on youtube and work fine if you join HTML5 trial on Youtube.
Gnash sometimes works, sometimes not.
Google Streetview, yeah it would be nice if that worked without Flash. There is no reason why it could not. It's just a matter of Google investing money/time/effort to get that working.
I personally don't use Flash. For years. It certainly is possible to live without it. The smaller amount of ads alone makes that worth.
A family cannot expect to improve finances by borrowing and investing into infrastructure.
So replacing the bulbs with CFL and LED lights, replacing the fridge, washing machine and TV with more efficient versions and taking a loan to put thermal insulation on the house - all that was meaningless. Why didn't you tell me 10 years ago?
Why is that China is the one that is always pictured as the police state when I am always treated far better there?
A friend of mine was in China 2-3 years ago. While traveling on a train he saw a police patrol to stop the train in the middle of nowhere because they caught a thief. They dragged the thief off the train and shot him on the spot.
This is YOU timothy not bothering to read 111 words that you put in the summary, let alone edit them.
What are you talking about? My understanding is that the editors were replaced by a script ages ago. Literally. The stories are voted on in firehose and whatever exceeds a hardcoded threshold gets posted on the front page. Why bother with any human intervention at all?
If someone threatened by right to vote by taxes, attempted to quarter soldiers in my house or perform an illegal search on me, I would not seek a gun. I would call the police and/or file a complaint at the court. You do it differently?
You see, you can claim to want a gun for self defense but how many do you need?
How many rights do YOU need?
Can you remind me when was the last time the right (except of right to not be robbed by a thug) of someone living in USA was protected with a gun? I doubt that you have guns to prevent your constitutional rights being taken away. Perhaps you should seek another system to protect you from robbery?
I live in a country where guns are allowed but not very common. You can see semi-automatic weapons in hands of cops and sometimes private security services transporting money. Normal guns are owned by private security services, hunters and sometimes rich people that are worried about being robbed. And criminals (I'm repeating myself in some cases). You can get a gun if you fill the paperwork, undergo some basic training and are reasonably healthy to handle it.
Now if I went berserk, I have no idea where I would go to get a gun illegally. If I would break into 100 of homes on my street while their owners are in work, I would not find one single gun. Yes, perhaps I could start visiting shady streets of the city and after half a year I could perhaps get in touch with some criminals that would sell me a gun. But going rampage because I got pissed on someone... no way I could get a gun for that.
Perhaps the high density of weapons on square km indeed makes it easier to get one.
One feature that I'm missing in Thunderbird is the ability to rewrite the From: field. In order to fight spam I use various aliases redirecting the e-mail to my primary account. That's fine. But when I want to write a reply having the alias name in the From field, I'm stuck. There used to be some addons that allow free editing of the From field, but they got outdated/depreciated/obsolete/...
If USA can veto anything, I don't see any problem with giving power from USA to UN. If UN attempts to pass something that USA does not like, USA can veto it. Where is the problem? Is there something that USA might want to pass and is afraid that it could not? Inquiring minds want to know...
Yes in EU

I say: the company should be held liable for any damages caused by occurrence of the gene. Anywhere. That should serve them right.

Doing without Flash is like doing without a flu. Good riddance.

Excuse my ignorance, but ... what is the current state of the art for including something into a web page that can access local system?
I could tell you about the software that kicked off the idea of sharing, but I would have to violate the rule #1.
Any weapon that can be used to assault. E.g. a club.
Nothing to thank for.
Neither it has anywhere outside of its borders.
Nobody cares if the threats are official or not. Everybody just caves in.

Didn't Linus set an example just a few days back?
Out of curiosity ... how does it work in all the physics?

I'm sorry for your country.

Can anybody point me to a solution?

Exactly. Because USA did ... what?
Logical fallacy of the day: False dichotomy.
I did not get that. Would you kindly explain that?
