are handy for people like me that don't have a 'smart' phone, or if you can't/don't want to text message:
Google Local: 877-520-3463. My favorite. You give it a city, category, and/or business name. It speaks or texts you the results, and connects you to the business.
Tell Me: 800-555-tell (8355). I mostly use it for driving directions, but it has myriad other features.
511: Traffic, public transit info (only handy if you're in the SF Bay Area or around Sacramento).
Their extremely tiny machine is about as wide as a strand of human hair, and half the length of the period at the end of this sentence. About 200 of these could march in a line across the top of a plain M&M. [...] Their paper describes a machine that measures 60 micrometers by 250 micrometers
Look at all the different units! WoaHHs, PatEoTSs, even um! Engineering like this is why NASA runs into problems whenever they try to do a joint operation with the ESA.
The TiVo remote is pretty good (would be better if the buttons were backlit at least a little), but unfortunately I've also got a TV, receiver, DVD, comcast box, etc, so anyone have any rants/raves on universal remotes? I need one that can do macros or is "task oriented," so that girlfriends/guests/etc don't have to hit much more than one button to power everything up, switch to the right mode, and watch TV or a DVD.
I've been reading up on remote central and the Harmony SST-659 looks pretty good. I've tried the Sony RM-AV3000 but find I prefer 'real' buttons in the dark, and its huge touchscreen always gets covered in smudges.
This will obviously be marketed by Apple as 'firewireless,' or maybe just 'fireless' until the mainstream public/press catches on, when the same wizards who brought you 'wireless fidelity' will start touting the cool features of 'fi-fi.'
Shoot me now.
never underestimate the powers of condescension - it knows not the bounds of time or space
Just think - the ability to keep numbers allows anyone to switch to the cheapest price plan du jour, until the price war bottoms out. Then what? Maybe certain companies (anyone? anyone? ) would have to stop competing on pure price and actually start to offer services valuable to customers, such as the ability to make and receive calls reliably.. the horror! (in fact, the telcos could even realize that if thousands of people in a certain area code are ditching, then perhaps it's time to buy a few more towers there?)

why Apple gets all of its chips from Motorola instead of IBM? Is there some kind of contractual obligation, or does Moto just come out with new chips first? AFAIK, IBM has much more manufacturing prowess (first with copper, first with 0.13, higher yields, etc, etc) and it seems silly for Apple to limit itself to one supplier that has had consistent manufacturing problems ever since G4s went above 800 mHz...
Oops, it's actually called 520-FIND, and is not associated with Google. Still free and awesome though. More info at 520find.com
