you think for one moment someone won't tap that data ?
That data is already being tapped by hostile trading partners such as the USA, and will continue to be tapped into the distant future, no matter who supplies the hardware.
Riighterr!!!! Knew so - how's Android (a Linux) doing, security-wise for years now? Torn up!
Actually, no. More of a beat up.
Despite Microsoft attempting to buy scare stories with free phones, malware on Android is rare and generally easily removed.
"Microsoft is offering five Android malware victims a free Windows Phone 7 phone. The catch? You need to share your rage against Android with the Twitterverse."
"Advanced users are already wary of alarmist declarations from security vendors, and though the malware threat for Android is growing, many consider it overblown, especially when compared to Windows and other desktop operating systems".
Until a month ago, I'd have agreed, but since then I've had the opportunity to use my Asus Transformer along with SuperNote. It's easily the best note-taking device I've used, and beats pen and paper because you can seamlessly use electronic recording, keyboard and touch.

I also thought the CC info was stored on Microsoft's servers.
TFA implies it's cached in system files.
Their advice is worth bearing in mind for desktop computers too, not just XBox 360s
"I think Microsoft has a longstanding pattern of this," Podhradsky said. "When you go and reformat your computer, like a Windows system, it tells you that all of your data will be erased. In actuality that's not accurate—the data is still available... so when Microsoft tells you that you're resetting something, it's not accurate."
If they're looking to catch the daytime lurker (and likely robber), I'd imagine you'd want it to be silent.
I use MythTV as a PVR, so adding MythZoneMinder and a few IPCams was pretty simple. It sends me a text message when one of the zones is breached, and I can look at the images or the live feed from my phone or work computer. One of the cameras is a PTZ, and the only time I got to use it in anger, turning it to face the kids who were about to tag my mailbox got them to change their minds. If something's happening that really concerns me, I can call the police direct or ask one or several of my neighbours to help out.
Apple Gets Lukewarm Reaction With New iPad
"Apple's stock is coming off a 52-week high of $548.21 during the March 1 trading session. The shares closed at $541.99 the day it launched the new iPad."
Atheros has come to the FOSS party relatively recently and have been providing assistance to Linux and BSD devs to bring support for newer devices. There will have been a lot of commits because there's a lot of work happening. Perhaps YOU need the driver training?
In July 2008 Atheros decided to change policy and hired two key Linux wireless developers Luis Rodriguez and Jouni Malinen and released an open-source Linux driver for their 802.11n devices.[10]. Atheros also released some source from their binary HAL under ISC license to help the community add support for their abg chips. Atheros has been actively contributing towards the ath9k driver in Linux, with support for all current 802.11n chipsets.[11]. Atheros has also been providing documentation and assistance to the FreeBSD community to enable updated support for 802.11n chipsets in FreeBSD-9.0 and FreeBSD-HEAD.[12].
The 2011 Q4 stats from IDC show a 56.1 per cent increase in overall slab sales to 28.2 million units; up from the 15.8 million that punters splashed out on in Q3.
In three months Android's percentage of the tablet market has shot up - Android was loaded on 44.6 per cent of tablets sold in Q4, up from 32.3 per cent in Q3.
WebOS and BlackBerry have been practically crushed into the ground: WebOS had zilch and BlackBerry clocked a 0.7 per cent. Windows didn't make a showing. But while iOS is top, it won't be top forever.
From TFA: "the ruling could also eliminate an important Microsoft software patent that has been invoked in lawsuits against Barnes & Noble and car navigation device-maker Tom Tom", so yes, that particular extortion racket will be busted.
I sincerely hope all those Android makers who've been bullied into paying are able to sue to get their lunch money back.
On the various computers where I've installed most "trendy" modern distros (ubuntu, etc), they actually run slower under Linux than Windows.
In what way?
Reduced CPU speed? Slower network access? How does your OS reduce the speed of your hardware? Do you have any benchmarks showing comparative speed?
(The incredible sluggishness of nautilus is one of the things that made me reinstall windows on one of my development machines).
You're a developer and you changed your entire OS because you couldn't change the settings to speed up a file manager? (hint: Nautilus shows thumbnails and previews audio). Please tell/warn us which projects you're working on!
...Like a diesel generator? 50% thermal efficiency instead of petrol/gasoline's 30%. And longer engine lifespan as a bonus.
It's not as simple as that.
"In total efficiency turbos win. For thermal efficiency a diesel would win, but add in the mechanical efficiency and the turbo wins. Internal combustion with pistons, rods, cranks, and the valve gear generate lots of friction and resistance. And turbines weigh much less allowing for more battery or capacitor capacity."
In the end, the tariffs are a last ditch effort to salvage the whole green jobs thing.
Except this backlash isn't exclusive to the USA.
"Here is a pair of graphs that demonstrate most vividly the merit order effect and the impact that solar is having on electricity prices in Germany; and why utilities there and elsewhere are desperate to try to rein in the growth of solar PV in Europe. It may also explain why Australian generators are fighting so hard against the extension of feed-in tariffs in this country."
This slow release of news is just salamitaktik to reduce public outcry. Tepco have known from the start that the reactors melted down and breached containment.
Of course, as usual with reputation engineering, it's only made things much worse.
I do not understand why they haven't made a hybrid with a small (1 litre) efficient diesel engine that *only* kicks in to charge the batteries when they hit half charge.
Why a diesel? If you decouple the power source (as opposed to power storage) from the wheels, you don't need torque/rpm flexibility and can switch to an efficient constant RPM engine.
Also lets ignore that the biggest problem in the Eastern states is the deregulation of the power market
Nope, not ignoring, I agree with you. Which is why it's so shocking to see other states like WA following the same broken path.
That was just one example of many. I'll reiterate: Australian governments, state and federal, are lazy.
Australia has only two major domestic airlines, two major supermarket chains, four major banks, etc, etc. Consequently we pay near-monopoly rents for everything and the highest power prices in the world. We're frittering away some of the greatest minerals booms in history and allowing billionaires to take it all offshore, all the while submitting to demands from Washington that are to the detriment of Australian citizens.
The only merit this Labor government can claim is that it's a long way better than the basket cases in opposition. Which is very sad for Australians.

The OS in question bears no relevance here:
Can you show us any current Linux trojans?
Just a pen and paper. No other device can keep up

In Australia's instance, it's more likely because Washington told them to refuse than any home-grown reason.
Perhaps you can convince one that he'll get 70 especially attractive virgins if he repairs your sarcasm meter
Virgins on Slashdot? How likely is that?
Nope, still not working.
Any one of two dozen drive over-write utilities (free or paid) will make sure your drive is unreadable.
Yep I'm on Linux, so "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=1M" is good most of the time, or dban if I'm lazy.
This is more of a problem for people who think consoles (and computers) should be appliances.
I also thought the CC info was stored on Microsoft's servers.

The jury is still out on this, absent real evidence I'm going to wait until more is known.
Exactly, those researchers at Drexel U have shown themselves to be repeatedly untrustworthy, and have huge commercial reasons to lie.
And those people who are unsure whether their credit cad details have been stolen shouldn't complain either.
I mean, which part of "Microsoft product" did they not understand?
now we are in a loop.
A red ring of death?

You make my point for me.
No, there's more to the post that does not support your conclusion. However as a fanboi, you can only see confirmation of your existing bias.

They're using a LiMux, a customised version of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with KDE3.5. On any modern hardware, it'll be very responsive.

No, we just get really really good at leading orchestras. At least, we think we do,
