You get the same kinds of issues accross various versions of Office. And now that installing Office involves setting up a Microsoft online account ad beating your head into a wall for 30 minutes, I am seeing these little issues as less and less of a problem.
If you want to anonymize your traffic, then use someone else's connection, changing your MAC every time you do so. Try to use multiple different connections in different locations. Try to use locations away from your house. Do not travel to said locations in a way that can easily be tracked (your cell phone, your car, etc.).
You solution is difficult, and not always needed. Sometimes you do not need perfect security, just enough to stop casual eavesdropping. TOR does this. And does it better that the current baseline, the laughably insecure SSL.

Just download instead of stream. Actually, that is a better answer for places with broadband too with all of the throttling (we don't throttle! Really!) going on... Sure there is the legal thing about it, but it works.

Someone needs to file a Sherman Anti-trust Act case here... It covers most of the egregious stuff, like paying cities not to lay fiber.
