Adult Swim doesn't seem to get one bit of gratitude from Comedy Central or Fox. I love Futurama, but I'm not going to turn my back on Adult Swim and reward Comedy Central by watching it anymore. If I get withdrawals, I'll just Netflix it.

Industrialist Carnegie... would have never entertained the idea of moving factories to China for cheap labor.

If he was a smart businessman, he would have taken his business to the place that made the most sense. At the time, it was America.

Raising corporat taxes doesn't affect the consumer as badly as you believe. Yes some prices get raised, but increased taxation also leads to more cuts internally like plastic desks instead of mahogany, fewer free trips to Vegas, snd so on.

And you know this from... running a large corporation? I've never seen the internal operations of a large corporation first hand, so I'll have to take your word. I would think that office supplies are actually on the bottom of the list for cuts. When this economic crisis hit, I didn't hear a lot about companies selling their desks. I heard about job losses. Why would it be any different for a tax increase?

    - If California's standard of living drops, then wages will drop, and eventually the factories will move back here because WE will be the cheaper labor than the Chinese.

Eventually they will come back? Why wait? Just cut to the chase and make it more enticing for businesses to operate in California from the get go?

This is anecdotal, but after having recently spent a month in Ukraine (please, not THE Ukraine... it isn't plural) and witnessing first hand the rampant use of illegal versions of XP, I am not surprised by this discovery at all. The illegal versions (DVD eXtreme Edition, Fuck You Bill!) can't be subjected successfully to WGA and therefore cannot be fully patched. Blame who you want, but this is how it is there right now. The culture is such that they don't bat an eye at getting a burned DVD in a shiny official-looking case (with XP DVD! printed on it) for way less than what they'd pay for one from Microsoft. To be clear, this is the Ukrainians I'm talking about. I have no idea about the U.S. government buildings.

I find this entire debate most humorous. On the one side, you have the ID crowd trying to get a foot in the door. On the other, the Evo people don't even want to entertain any such notions. There is more debate on whether there should be a debate than there has been debate on the actual theories.

I am not a theologist. I'm not even religious. As I see it, intelligent design does not equal Creationism or religion. Why does design have to involve omnipotence or faith? Human, mortal scientists are working in labs at the nano level and beyond, creating new devices by design. Who knows how long it will take before they actually replicate life? But I do not doubt that it will happen.

Yet, when the evolutionists hear "intelligent design", they go on the attack. They took existence away from religion some hundred odd years ago and have been paranoid about religion taking it back ever since. They are so on edge that the mere mention (or the discussion of mentioning) of an alternative idea sends them into a frenzy. Is evolution such a unstable theory that they aren't willing to put it up against anything else for scrutiny?

Of course, ask an evolutionist this and it is preposterous. There is no need for discussion. Their theory has been proven time and time again. Just ask any scientist with half a brain! Of course, the amount of gray matter is directly proportional to the scientist's loyalty to evolution. And if you have to ask, you are just stupid anyway, right?

If anything, it is all fun to watch!

That's true of the smallest district as well. I'm the tech at a district of a little over 300 students.

I'm running NComputing, mostly to cut costs, but it is good PR to be green these days. NComputing claims to work on Linux (before you buy it), but all they have is a beta program that works on two distros with version numbers at least a year and a half old. I'm stuck without the support of the developers. And it is a catch 22 for them as well. Why should they put forth the time and resources when the demand is virtually nil?

Even if I gave training to both staff and students on OpenOffice.org, there are no OpenOffice teacher textbooks (from which then to teach) of which I'm aware. They are all Microsoft based. I have confidence that my computer apps teacher is smart enough to modify her curriculum to match, but why expect that of her? And then when the students go off to college, are they going to resent us when they have to relearn Word for their intro to computers classes?

As the lone tech guy, I could put all my effort into convincing the board and staff that the Linux desktop is little different than Windows and would save x amount of money. Then I could spend ungodly amounts of time, blood, sweat, and tears getting certain Windows-only programs to work (if I'm lucky) in WINE. And when all that was done, I'd be pulled a dozen ways answering the same question: Why doesn't [this] work like Windows did?

Perhaps this only speaks of my confidence in my ability to train, but I think it is closer to the literacy of my potential audience.

And then there is the State, who must be well invested or completely ignorant, as their Assessment application runs in only Windows or Mac. Likewise, there are grants that require specific applications that only run on the big two.

I'd like to help Linux out, really. But there is too much going against me.
