  1. No matter how much you might hate MS, this is nice on Gates Pledges $750M to Vaccinate Children · · Score: 1

Microsoft's business prectices might not be the best, hell sometimes they are downright illegal, but this type of thing is heartwarming. Business is business ppl and there are millions of ppl that would cut your throat for a nickel in the business world. I commend Bill for sharing his wealth with those less fortunate.

My question is whos got the 1100watt power supply that running 2 6800's is going to "require"?

Artists dont make most of thier money from sellings CDs.
Artists have to sell a LOT of CDs to make a good amount of money from them.
Artists make thier money selling concert tickets, which is exactly the same thing as a movie ticket if you ask me.

The record companies are who cash in on the sales of CDs, which is exactly why theyre fighting file swapping tooth and nail. However, I think if CDs were priced in the 5 dollar range they would sell WAY more. I hope they realize soon that scare tactics and suing the pants off thier potential consumers isnt the way for them to make money off of us.

  4. Computer Terrorists on Spammers Using Students as Relays · · Score: 1

Now THESE ppl are the real computer terrorists, or perhaps traitors would be a better description. They better hope that the govt doesnt pull a kevin Mitnick on that ass! I actually hope they do prosecute these little maggots.

  5. Re:Who needs a computer to find food? on Sony Ericsson Makes a tri-band GPRS modem · · Score: 1

no one *needs* to have a pc to find food. I was merely suggesting a possible use. And on that note, I use my PC frequently to find restaurant reviews, and online menus. It makes for fewer unpleasant restaurant experiences.

  6. Great Innovation on Sony Ericsson Makes a tri-band GPRS modem · · Score: 1

Seems like a great product that could be very useful to travelling businessmen, and even just vacationers looking for a good place to eat. Lets just hope the security is there to go along with it. I have my doubts about it though, I would imagine something of this nature wouldnt be hard to intercept, theyve been intercepting cell phone transmissions for years.

I watch movies on MY pc.
I dont have space in my room for my TV, so I use my computer to watch movies. Ive got a 21" Sony Trinitron monitor, and a sweet 5.1 Speaker setup. So yeah, I watch movies on it. I do watch DVDs primarily, but if its a movie that i dont want to purchase, ill download it. Im not ready to pay 3.99 for a digital copy that i cant keep, but its a step in the right direction. Id be willing to pay 3.99 for a movie i can KEEP, and play infinitely, or a lesser charge for perhaps 48 hours.

  12. Does EVERYTHING have to be automated?! on Keep Playing With AI · · Score: 1

  13. Price Prohibitive on New Linux-based PVR from Sony: Cocoon · · Score: 1

I was shocked at the price (~1,100$ US). Who is willing to pay that much to watch TV. I dont watch much TV, and even if I did, I wouldnt pay that much damn money! Why purchase something like this when you can get DVDs for around 10$ a piece. Seems like an overpriced dust collector to me.

  14. I Wish the truck would have hit her (slightly O/T) on Do Cell Phones Make Us Stupid? · · Score: 1

That way there would be one less stupid person in this world. There are MANY stupid people in this world and most of them are probably better off dead. So I propose that a movie be made that is sort of like beavis & butthead, South Park, etc... But have a disclaimer at the beginning that tells you "DO NOT PERFORM THESE STUNTS OR YOU WILL DIE!" this of course will make the stupid people want to do them even more. I want it to contain things like the deleted scene from "The Program" where the kid lays down in the center of traffic to 'relax'. Some idiot got killed doing this, and they had to remove the scene. Now IMO, if you are stupid enough to lay in TRAFFIC, then the world is better off without you. It may be a bit elitist, but I dont care. Just an opinion from someone who thinks cell phones should be like a drivers license, or a CCW permit.

  15. Unbelievable on Microsoft News Update · · Score: 1
"It will also be used to bind content to a specific PC, so that it cannot be redistributed around a house or played on a different device. It is like buying a videotape or music CD that will work only with your equipment, which you specify to the retailer at the time of purchase, and won't work on anyone else's."So now, even if i PAY for music or video on the internet, I cant even burn it to a CD and play it in my car? Or put a movie on CD and play it in my DVD player? I cant transfer an MP3 to a portable device, even though I OWN IT? This is clear disregard for fair use laws. If we as consumers allow things like this to happen, we lose rights to things WE PURCHASE. I for one do not like the thought of someone else controlling a posession of mine. I dont know what it will take for the mainstream to realize that we give up our rights when we give in to tactics like these. On the other hand, I can sympathize with companies that produce content wanting to protect it, they are out to make money just like you and I. But this is NOT the way to go about it. I dont really have any suggestions on how it can be worked out, because no matter what safegaurds are put in place someone will find a way around them. NOTHING is EVER going to be 100% secure, not only on the internet, but IRL as well. I hope for the sake of our rights as consumers and for *most* of us on this site Americans, that this form of home invasion doesnt continue.
  16. Everyone wants the Biggest Fish on Microsoft Notes Critical Security Holes in Windows, Office · · Score: 2, Insightful

First off, im not saying that MS doesnt need to work harder at making thier software more secure BEFORE releasing it. But if you think about it, there really is nothing computer related that is 100% secure. Theres always someone that finds some way around whatever security that gets implemented. Windows is the #1 OS by a long shot, and therefore has WAY more people trying to exploit any vulnerabilities. I believe that if Linux or some other OS had such a huge market share that perhaps there would be a lot more people finding security holes in those systems. Personally, I run FreeBSD on my server, but I use WinXP on my personal box, b/c its primarily used for gaming. Anyway, just my viewpoint
