Why do I have the feeling that this story was posted simply to watch the spelling nazis make asses out of themselves?
    Because it's true :-).

...oh wait... The Piece Prize... Wow. It occurs to me that it is a highly humorous name for a prize. I am unable to contain myself. Really!

"BitTorrent is great. p2p is great, in general. But continually highlighting how great it is for piracy (yeh, regardless of how lame the RIAA/MPAA are) just puts more negative attention on it and further affixes the concept of "p2p is bad" in people's minds, rather than what they should be thinking.

I don't know if slashdot editors actually are willing to edit posts rather than just put them up (I can see reasons for doing it and reasons for not doing it), but this post would have been just super without the last sentence."
I beg to differ. Having an open and honest discussion is always preferable to hiding or trying to cover up information.

    We're the good guys, remember?

Hmm, there definitely is something to be said for having choices of distro... On the other hand, there is the choice of having one really great distro supported by an enormous community that increases the number of people using linux or having many smaller distros that are good, but not great. Maybe the answer is a compromise--kill off only some of the distros, thus providing both an excellent distro(s) as well as still providing a decent amount of choice.

  5. Ubuntu continues to grow... on The Grumpy Groundhog - Ubuntu for Developers · · Score: 4, Insightful

I'm using Ubuntu right now as I type this. I think that if Ubuntu keeps growing at this rate, it will cause some other distros to die off. That's good because if the linux community is less divided among different distros, we won't be reinventing the wheel as much.

Well, I use linux and we have Beagle.

For windows, there is the Google Toolbar.

Because both maintain an index of searchable items, the search is lightning-fast, just like Spotlight.

He's absolutely right. The article is a troll. I just switched to Fedora. I've used many linux distros before, but this is the only one I've gotten to work as well as it has. It's also fast as shit. The Gnome features are AMAZING! I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to use the the new system... It's a much better way to navigate files once you get used to it. I used to only use linux to tinker around, but this distro has actually gotten me to move from windows and os x to linux--permanently. FC2 and Gnome rock. People should stop posting trolls to slashdot, it's really annoying.
