So if everyone was downloading and using debian, there would be no market because of the lack of sales? I think the people who ued to sell into this market would beg to differ.
Where the server is it's the 23rd. Of course as I understand it, the server is likely in the US (at least as far as timezone), and the US is almost the last country to tick over to a new day, It's hard for someone to be located somewhere a day behind that, maybe on the east side of Greenwich?.
Of course here in oceania it is the 24th.
It's funny, as horrible as csv might seem, I'm forever making reports export to CSV, because basically everyone I deal with can use it. It's like text files, or rtf, or pdf, no-one can honestly say they can't use it, and it offers 100% of the functionality people ask me for.
In my humble opinion, if this was a war for oil, it would still be diplomatically unfeasible to act differently. You at least have to pretend you went in there for the right reasons while your grabbing control of the oil.
Because you can build a "crappy" car without the ethical implications of a bought one. See Home built electric vehicle versus pollution spewing bought one.
I guess with definition of real sex being "Actual intercourse" as opposed to "Simulated intercourse", then yes, porno tends to contain 'real sex'. Although, being an australian citizen, and not a resident of the ACT, I wouldn't have the opportunity to know.
Yeah, because having an XBOX360 is so much different to having a PC next to your TV...... Especially if your PC is like an EPIA fanless thing inside a mini-itx case...... Especially when the XBOX is sucking down 100Watts plus of energy, and blowing fans to deal with that.
I have witnessed the phenomenon of people getting exciting about companies screwing them (e.g. making them rebuy in a new format). Every time I come across it, it truly astounds me. I wish I could get a brainscan, or something that would let me understand the thought process that produces this...
I don't see any point in the new formats. Not until I can get a projector that does 1920x1080....
I'm actually reaching a point with a lot of things in technology where its "good enough". I know it sounds a bit like "640K should be enough for anyone", but the way things are currently, I'm pretty happy with standard definition digital. I still have a standard definition TV, and I don't see any real reason to upgrade. In hindsight I should have gotten a larger one, since sometimes it's hard to read small text in some widescreen presentations now that the tv is in a larger room (leaving the lounge farther away from it). But I don't think I'd gain too much by increasing the resolution. I'll probably "upgrade" the telly when our power goes solar and I need something that uses less juice than the CRT.
You do realise that by not using linux, and not paying for games on linux, you are helping the situation perpetuate itself. There are few games for linux because there are few gamers running linux. Anyhow, back to a round of Nexuiz.
I usually suggest, when anyone asks me for hardware recommendations, to look for linux support. Even if they only use windows. This way if they ever want to try linux, the devices will work. Secondly, if they are getting rid of old hardware, I might be able to take it if it is linux compatible, and move it on to one of my many linux using friends. IF it doesn't run on linux I don't have this option. Thirdly, if they go into the shop, and they are double checking for devices that have linux support, hopefully this message (that there is demand for linux support) filters back up to device manufacturers.
In summary, it's all about avoiding the lock in. Even if I was happy using linux now, I'm still looking for devices with windows or BSD support, so that I can change my mind later. (of course I probably am going to avoid windows while it is closed source...)
Solar panels work wherever there is sun. Of course due to a lack of sun towards the poles they can be less effective uring winter, requiring a larger solar array.
Except the sun is still between Mars and Earth, but your on the side of earth farthest from the sun and mars, so now the sun *and* the earth are blocking transmissions.
Well, if you consider it ugly, the only thing I can offer you is the multitude of skins available for it.
They are popular because they have a simple interface for playing music. Stop/play/FFWD/RWD easily accessible. volume. Playlist is simple to use. hit j to get any song from your playlist.
I don't think any other player makes it that easy. Plus the zxcvb shortcut keys.
I don't really understand the whole "it has to look like my other apps" thing.... If it looked like my other apps it would be less convenient to use. It's handy for apps where I need to *do* consistant things, like actually save a file. Or print... This is an app where you don't open one file to work on, and save them individually as you work on them. Most other apps work that way.
Of course if they license it, at the *same* price as their current profit, they make the same money (or more if they get a bigger market) at no loss, and without having to go through the whole process of manufacturing something.... (This is what the grand parent said!)
I'll run through an example so this is clear (numbers are arbitrary examples):
Apple makes $20 profit from manufacturing ipods. They make $20 per player from 100% of the ipod market, and $20 per player from 0% of the non ipod market. They license fairplay for $20 a player (they can tell the competing manufacturer to take it or leave it). They now make $20 per player for 100% of the ipod market, plus $20 per player for x% of the non-ipod market (where x is the percentage of players licensing fairplay).
Since they make $20 whenever someone buys a licensed player (ipod or not), they don't care if they sell no ipods, if people buy as many licensed players as they were selling ipods. So they need to try to get as many manufacturers to license fairplay as possible (at the right price). They can then kick back and drink margaritas instead of running factories, and still get paid.
I'm not sure what you mean by "poorly formed", but I'm certain the open source PDF exporters do the most compatible PDFs around. They don't tend to implement the newer features that can cause problems (a la Quark 6 compared to Quark 4), until they have stabilised the ones they are using. Also Scribus saves standard pdf files. I did my wedding invitiations in scribus. They printed fine.
As I understand it, if your business is in supplying a print service, you should be trying to supply it to as many people as possible, regardless of the file format they use. If you don't, your sending your customers elsewhere.
Now imagine the trauma of someone who, through a freak accident, hits you, and your neck gets twisted by the seatbelt. This person doesn't have the comfort of knowing it was partially your fault for not wearing a seat belt, they have to take all the blame on their own.
I'm not saying you shouldn't wear a seatbelt (hey, they save lives), but that when it comes down to something as indirect as comforting someone by wearing your seatbelt when they pummeled your car, it no longer matters. They might be 1% more or less traumatised by seeing someone die than seeing someone hanging painfully by their seatbelt until help arrives (or perhaps dying that way)....
Perhaps not, but I've maybe seen one mangled person from a car accident (actually I'm pretty sure I only saw car, and no human), but I see plenty of adolescents with pants below underwear. So I'd say that the pants below underwear thing is a bigger problem, just in smaller doses.
Maybe nothing is being copied, but is the "fingerprint" a deriviative work?
Of course to take that fingerprint, one has to copy it from the disk into RAM to process it..... Kind of in the same way a cd player copies the data off the cd to convert it to analogue....
I'm fairly certain musicbrainz wrote their original algorithm, but they have since partnered up with someone to share their algorithm. I think the benefit to the "commercial party" is that heaps of people are sending in fingerprints that the commercial party can then add to their database.
Even so, muscibrainz is only intended to work on whole songs AFAIK. In my expreience it still does ok if the end of the mp3 is cut off, although sometimes this will give it a lower confidence and it will suggest some other songs as well.

We just need a planetary air conditioner, I mean, we have an unlimited supply of energy ;-)
Yeah, because having an XBOX360 is so much different to having a PC next to your TV...... Especially if your PC is like an EPIA fanless thing inside a mini-itx case...... Especially when the XBOX is sucking down 100Watts plus of energy, and blowing fans to deal with that.
AFAIK that only applies to trademarks, not copyright.

It might help more if you travelled in a lead can? Be harder to get into the air, and there's also the lead poisoning thing I guess...

Yes but the government is afraid of the people, so is there liberty? (thanks for playing)

Yeah, but this is the Koffice Image Manipulation Program
