Fortunately my girlfriend didn't cause such a scene. She did spend an early "date" at my office watching me play Myst all afternoon and evening. I didn't have a computer at home at the time. Perhaps she saw something in the way I gathered those blue and red pages... we've been married for 5 years now.
What do you have your 401K invested in? Mines returning %7 right now.
An assortment of things. A bond fund, value fund and growth fund, though to be fair it's only recently been rebalanced. I ignored the whole financial risk pyramid thing until recently. This bear market has finally forced a reassesment of my plans.

... now that I think about it, my net worth may be closer to $100k than I previously thought. How much do reasonably healthy children fetch on the black market? Sorry kids Daddy has to keep up with the Jones'.
"Age 32 and piercing-free, Karen Doss . . . has just $5,000 in a 401(k) and $20,000 in home equity. Ideally, someone her age should have at least $100,000 stashed away."Fuck me, $100,000 by age 32? I'm about $100,000 behind, then.
Sounds about right here too. I keep throwing money at my 401k and it just evaporates. How many 3x year olds are sitting on $100k? I'm 33 and my net worth might be half that. But liquid $100k? Fuhgetaboutit.
Real non-funny story from high school chemistry (okay, so maybe it's funny now):
I had detention in chemistry class and was asked to clean up. Part of the clean up was some spilled mercury a portion of which I appropriated for later "study" at home.
During this "study" I discovered that the mercury would stick to my gold crucifix that I wore on a gold chain. Intrigued I removed the chain and drug the crucifix through the tiny puddle of mercury.... and then I tried to remove the blobs of mercury from the crucifx and chain when I discovered the mercury would only smear and not detach. What was worse the gold seemed to be absorbing the mercury! Frantic I intended to boil the chain and crucifix when it began to crumble...
...and that is how I (and my parents) learned the word amalgam.
If I want to see any of the discussion about this story it seems.
I'm not a scientist either, but I did take an intro to forensics course once.
...too much TV.
I just knew you were going to say: I'm not a scientist either, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express...
