And those figures are impossible. Konsole requires kde_init, which takes at least 30 seconds to start. I use gnome-terminal in rox (nothing preloaded) and it starts in 5-10 seconds.

Sorry for having to delete all the notices, but this lameness filter is very lame. It decided that lal the legal notices were "junk characters". Likewise, it's now decided that I have too few characters per line, so I need to write this little explainatory paragraph.
Most schools around here are locked into Apple. The vast majority of computers are PowerMac 5260's, iMac (fruit coloured) and PowerMac G4's, with PowerMac G3's acting as servers for clusters of 30 or 40 iMacs. All except the G4's run "Classic" Mac OS, and some of the G4's run Classic as well.
I write XHTML 1.1/CSS 2.1 code and test it on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla 1.0, Firefox 0.9, Opera 7.5.1, Dillo, Links and Konqueror. Then I get complaints that nothing works on MSIE5 for Mac. If anyone knows how to make IE5/Mac recognize "background:#ff0000" applied to div's, tell me, because I feel like shooting myself about now. Either that, or going out and buying an iMac for the SOLE purpose of testing IE5/Mac (why? an iMac is cheaper than OSX for use with PearPC...).
Wow. You think back a long way. Lemme see... Sawfish was the default WM in Gnome 1.4, and enlightenment was an option. Therefore, enlightenment must have been the default before that. Metacity has been the default WM since earrly in the 2.0 series.
And are forgetting something about KDE? You complain about gmc (which hasn't been the filemanager for Gnome for several years. Around the same time, kde changed from KFM to Konqueror...
And Epiphany is still thedefault browser. The progression was this, actually: Galeon->Ephiphany. Mozilla was never official, and nautilus isn't even a browser.
And if I hear one more KDE user complaining about Gnome's slowness, I'm gonna be confused. Wait, I'm confused already. EVERYTHING about KDE and Qt is slow. One of Gnome's plusses is that Gtk is very snappy- and so therefore is Gnome.
As for integration, I'll take the fact that I can use my Gnome apps in other WM's without waiting for a 10 minute *_init startup procedure, whereas KDE with its KParts and DCOP makes all KDE apps useless anywhere else.
Finally, as for the Control Center, well, at least I can find applets. I mean, heck, KDE has what, a hundred control center applets? A new user (I upgraded from KDE 1.2 to 3.0- big step) needs to use the Search function to do ANYTHING.
PS: Right-click on pager, hit Preferences. Pretty simple...
PPS: Yes, I understand that this will be modded -1 Troll. Oh well.:/
Like Windows users everywhere who use IE only for Windows Update, I went through the ritual of adding v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com to my Trusted Sites list and disabling Active Scripting in my Internet Sites list today. This is a fresh[-ish] install of Windows XP SP2 RC2. I've never used trusted sites before on it. However, I noticed that there was already one entry in the list: https://free.aol.com Why was this? I don't use AOL- I don't even have it installed. I'm starting to sense some corporate brainwashing (and, a site that if cracked would give anybody full access to every copy of IE in SP2...). Has anybody else seen this?
Most users (myself included) wouldn't want to have to save everything to a world-readable directory and either move it from there (annoying) or leave it there (insecure). However, maybe if the browser ran as a different user and the download manager ran as the original user. Hmm. They'd have to be child processes of some controlling process under the original user. Could be fun.;)
All it does for me is pop up an internet explorer window. It's really weird, because the IE window is open to the "Log in to MSN" page, with the E-Mail address in the login form set to blank. Not the usual "", just blank.
Yes, because if somebody does something mean to your civilians, that means that you have free reign to do something mean to everybody else's civilians. After all, they're the problem, right? I mean, if it weren't for those damned civilians, everything would be hunky-dory...
1. Reintroduce the Newton with modernized hardware.
Really. The newton form-factor is PERFECT for handwriting recognition. Large enough that you can write more than one word at a time, but small enough that it doesn't weigh too much. If they introduced a new Newton with a slimmer-down body, color screen, LiPol battery and other new features, but with Newton OS and Apple HWR, it'd reinvigorate the PDA market. Right now, smartphones and cellphones are destroying the PDA market because they are essentially PDAs with phones- about the same size, same functionality. A new Newton would add a new class of PDA and inject some hope into the market.
Actually, IE's not that hard to install in Linux. WINE supports it quite well.
And I hope it's days are numbered. IE's CSS support is rather scary, it's buggy, full of security holes, and slow as molassas. I remember way back when when I changed my Windows machine from IE to NS4. Since then, I haven't been back, going from NS4 to NS6 to Mozilla to Firefox.
They -did-. It's called the Newton and is the best PDA ever designed.
Okay, it's time to show some serious geek/nerd muscle. Let's slashdot the biggest prize of all- PLAYBOY!

That is in fact what they did. :D Try searching for any e-mail address (yours, mine, example@example.com)
Have you ever written an xhtml page? Because if you have, you are a very stupid person, and if you haven't, you're a classic Slashdot troll.

I was really impressed until I saw that it said "terabit". As in 1/8 of a terabyte. Which isn't a terrible lot...
:(
1 terabit = 2^40 bits = 1099511627776 bits
1 terabyte = (2^40) * 8 bits = 8796093022208 bits

Actually, if you RTFA, you'll see that it says "1.5 Ghz Pentium 4 Processor or AMD Athlon 1500+". That covers it pretty well, I'd say.
I hope you're kidding. I mean, it freaking ships in a few weeks. Hundreds of people outside of id have seen it. It's been reviewed for Pete's sake...

This works in Outlook XP and OE 6. So who's up for a nice chain letter?

I was looking at my website's logs today. Here's what I found for June:
MSIE: 52.0%
Mozilla: 27.4%
Now for this month, July: MSIE: 48.1%
Mozilla: 32.9%
Yes, it's only the first five days of July. But still, it looks like a pattern to me. (btw: OS stats are 68% Windows, 18.5% Linux)

Or, you could just post a link on slashdot to all infected systems. Same end effect.
