Yeah, we keep getting this "Laser based weapons platforms" stuff every once in a while. I guess to keep the funding going. "Until miniaturization" is something I been hearing since the 90s.
But they never really tell us how they solved the energy density problem.
They've developed transparent aluminum, allowing the shark tank walls to be MUCH thinner and lighter.
zomg, so they will carry sharks with lasers on their heads in transparent aquariums on aircraft!
I remember reading somewhere that the laser rangefinders on some Chinese tanks are deliberately designed to be capable of destroying the optics on enemy tanks. I don't think that would count as a blinding weapon since its directed at the optics not the gunner.
The thing is current hel are 10 kilowatt and are the size of a car(often towed behind a Humvee)
To get to the mega joule requires a lot more fuel than a gallon of jet gas.
Then theres the issue of beyond visual range engagements, which is where most of the action happens these days and where missiles excel. If your fighter carries a laser and no missiles you better hope your laser can shoot down their missiles, which they will be firing at you from over the horizon where your laser cannot reach.
Oh wait I guess you could fit a rail gun on your f35
The point I'm making is that the problem is not Linux, it is the actions of a convicted monopolist - Microsoft - that has so distorted the PC industry that manufacturers are rewarded for only ensuring their products work with Windows.
This starts with hardware components directly implementing Windows protocols, firmware (as in this case) only enabling functionality for Windows, and drivers only released for Windows and no technical documentation released for open-source implementers to work from.
I pay for this 'convicted monopolist' to do the work to produce the operating system so I can use it without wasting my valuable time.
Thanks, Microsoft. Apple do pretty good too. Linux, not so much. On the server, great, I use it every single day. On the desktop, give me a break, I don't have time to fuck around like some kind of hobbyist.
This. The fact the people think this case even crossed the presidents desk is absurd. That's why he has underlings.
Someone high up caught wind of this and got offended, now they are conducting a witch hunt. It's all it is. This man did nothing wrong. He threatened no one. I hope his identity remains secret.
Just wait till Trump gets elected. No muthafucka better make any jokes online about anyones hairpiece.
If they issue the gag order must we gag ourselves?
What if we refuse to gag? What if we continue to talk? What the fuck can they do to us? Kill us?
This is no motherfucking North Korea, this is the United States of America
If they think they can gag Americans with a fucking gag order they can go fuck themselves
A Waco, Texas incident is enough, we will not allow any more government goon incident to happen
You many layers of constitution, federal laws, state laws, county laws, city by-laws (and probably several other layers I've forgotten about) mean that pretty much anyone can be put into legal limbo and tied up in legal issues indefinitely because there is virtually zero chance you haven't broken some law or regulation.
You've painted yourselves into a corner with so much law and regulation there is almost no way out of it and no individual, not even legal experts, stand any chance of figuring out where they stand. Even your police and courts are not clear on what laws they are supposed to enforce. They literally make it up as they go along, especially the police.
I would like to know what sort of level of verbal threat counts as worthy of investigation to the Absolute Freedom Of Speech people.
There are two separate things happening here:
1. Potential government corruption 2. Potential threat of violence against a human
It's irrelevant that the target of 2 might be involved in 1. This isn't a country of vigilante justice, but rule of law, and we should be proud of that. You show impartiality whether you're investigating an angel or a demon - if selective justice is allowed, then it won't be the powerful men who lose out...
A potential threat is not actually a threat. Its the potential for a threat to exist. Its like a probability, when it becomes 1 then there is a threat and not before.
Eating cookies and candy for dinner isn't good for you. There is no harm done by naming the boat Boaty McBoatface. It is not even offensive. In fact the name could even be more beneficial than the alternatives since it gives more publicity and might inspire younger people to be more interested in science.
In this case we get a worse alternative because of people taking themselves too seriously to go for a better option.
Actually whats surprising is that the 'winner' was as mature as 'Boaty McBoatface'.
In fact my guess is that the real top entry was more like "poopy bum" or "fuck face" and that these got censored out.
Actually I was thinking this is kind of like what happens when you ask a bunch of toddlers to vote on "What do you want for lunch?" The choice will almost always be 'candy' or 'cookies'. No, you don't ask toddlers open questions like this and give them free reign to choose whatever they want; [...]
Considering our rulers do exactly the same in real life (ask the public to choose and then do something else altogether), do I deduce from your comment that they consider their constituents to be immature toddlers?
You prove my point: don't you see how incredibly patronizing that is?
Its in the interest of nanny state for its population to depend on nanny state. To that end it encourages people to grow up into big babies.
Boaty McBoatface is actually very representative of the "democratic" process in our societies: people vote, but ultimately their voice doesn't matter one jot, and the powers that be impose whatever the hell they want.
The inevitable conclusion, in politics as in silly internet ship-naming polls, is: why vote at all then? The deciders don't really need our opinion, now, do they?
Actually I was thinking this is kind of like what happens when you ask a bunch of toddlers to vote on "What do you want for lunch?" The choice will almost always be 'candy' or 'cookies'.
No, you don't ask toddlers open questions like this and give them free reign to choose whatever they want; you let them choose between a restricted set of alternatives.
And this is what you get when you let the Internet community (a bunch of toddlers) invent the names to vote for. What they should have done was generate a list of potential names and let people (toddlers) vote for one of them.
And, yes, the Internet 'community' may as well be a bunch of toddlers.
a so called "pro" user, who by his own choice, buys windows(or any m$ product), or needs it to do anything, or depends on it for anything, is no pro user, but an rank uninformed idiot. same btw goes for anyone buying, needing, or depending, in any apple product.
You don't seem to have any idea how professional people actually use computers.
look, kids today at least know the reality. when I grew up, we were taught to respect and trust the cops. now, kids know better. so, at least the truth gets out there. sadly, though, it is not helping change the way things are done.
This is the truth.
I was watching the start of "Fear the Walking Dead", not new I know.
It occurred to me; the reaction of the people of LA to the police helped the zombie plague to get a foothold. Had the zombie plague started somewhere else, like Switzerland for example, it might not have escalated the way it did in the USA.
When people hate and fear and loath their government, government representatives and the people who are supposed to help and protect them, society becomes incredibly fragile and vulnerable.
So, here's my question. If Hillary gets indicted, convicted, or goes to jail, etc., after the DNC picks her as the candidate, but before the general elections, does Bernie get to be on the ballot? Or nobody from the Democratic party goes on the ballot? Is that the Republican's strategy all along?
I'm hoping Hilary gets to do Monica, ie goes down. Then someone like her running mate gets to be the presidential candidate and the whole Democrat election campaign goes down the toilet and theres only one candidate left on the ballot papers and thats Trump. He gets elected in a 'landslide' winning 100% of actual votes cast, declares himself president for life, enforcing this by having the Marines take over congress and sentate (IIRC the Marines are the only branch of the US military who take orders directly from the president). Thats my dream scenario anyway.
Question. You named India and Pakistan as developing countries (Pakistan? Seriously?) anyway, but, do you consider China also a developing country? I wonder because so many americans have no clue about these things.
I guess India and Pakistan count as developing, I guess progress is being made and that counts as 'development'.
China is an odd case, I don't know how to classify it in terms of first, second or third world. Probably more second world these days, especially the coastal cities.
I'm not American. I'm European and have lived in a very diverse collection of countries.
Same reason it took pilots a long time to adopt them : Ego.
Most pilots I know put their ego aside when it comes to flying. Unlike doctors, they put their own life on the line and self-conservation instincts keep them in check.
Thats what malpractice insurance is for! The doctors can relax knowing they are covered when they fuck up and kill a patient!
do nothing.
Trump is bound to win the GOP primaries in UAE

I guess I just don't get why it's illegal to carry large amounts of legal tender.
I guess since the tender is legal it is the 'carrying' that is illegal. Better stop lifting anything ever.
Because its obviously drug money, duh.
This. The fact the people think this case even crossed the presidents desk is absurd. That's why he has underlings.

And Mexico is going to pay for them!
And whats more, Mexico is going to be forced to hand over all of their chilli recipes.
DHS = Department of Homeland Security
KGB = Committee for State Security
And NOBODY in Congress noticed the resemblance?
DHS is run by a committee?
and take your home and all your possessions. That's what they can do to you.
Right, because OBVIOUSLY drug money. Thats all they have to say.
If they issue the gag order must we gag ourselves?

Also, something about bullets dipped in pigs blood
I'm not 100% sure that policemens blood would actually be technically unclean.
It's moments like these I realise I really would be a serf in medieval times, and modern medicine aside, we haven't really progressed.
Ah yea, about those antibiotics...
That's not "Vigilante justice", because it's done under the cover of authority.
Indeed. Vigilante justice would be private citizens going around shooting corrupt police officers.
I would like to know what sort of level of verbal threat counts as worthy of investigation to the Absolute Freedom Of Speech people.

I'm actually convinced an AI made bitcoin.
An AI from the future.

It is if life is a intrinsic result (rather than a possibility) of some common parameters, then it would mean that there would have to be life.
There would need to be evidence of this...
What took doctors so long to follow suit?
Same reason it took pilots a long time to adopt them : Ego.
Most pilots I know put their ego aside when it comes to flying.
