    Wrong. In fact, UK submarines can launch unilaterally; they don't even need authorisation from London, although the system cannot be armed and activated by one person. US missiles are PAL-locked; the UK chose not to install the option when it was made available.

    On currency, there's a lot of pre-vote posturing. The most likely scenario is that we keep the pound and major financial institutions continue to be regulated by the Bank of England. No-one is in the slightest bit keen on the groat or the mark.

    The point of nukes is to have them at sea. Multiplying depots doesn;t really add any military advantage but multiplies costs and attendant risks (and Faslane is reasonably well protected naturally).

    Well, it depends on the jurisdiction. In the UK, the Queen presses charges, via the Crown Prosecution Service. In other places, the individual raises the initial charge, which is then prosecuted by the state.

    They are not much higher, they are on the order of 10-20% higher. And this should not make any difference in countries with a sane medical system, such as the UK - yet it persists.

    Umm, the point of the GPL is not altruism. It is to create software that the end user has the right to inspect and modify. So yes, if altruism is your goal, public domain your code and be done with it (this works perfectly well for, say, SQLite).

    Yes, but it is an open question as to whether it was regulation or the rise of the concept of the trusted brand (as well as the development of tort law; issues like Donoghue v Stevenson were not settled until the early 20th century) that was responsible for driving improvements.
