similar story at a previous workplace. some "security consultant" at a 3rd party that did dev and hosting for us ran a script of "known exploits" against webservers. ALL of them returned positive, even ones for Apache/Tomcat (we were using IIS). he wrote a panicy email to our execs/directors recommending we pull the power cable on these systems until the holes were pluged.. turns out our custom 404 page wasn't actually returning a 404 in the headers - so where his script was expecting a 404 it was getting an "okay" message. wouldn't you get a tad suspicious if a web server had EVERY exploit from a list of 100+ - including ones for another platform!! duh!

I read somewhere else that the British government asked the CSIRO to discontinue any computing projects and focus on primary industry (in a time when Oz was alot more 'in bed' with the UK). Chalk that up as another great missed opportunity.. Who knows Silicon Valley could've been in Melbourne (v. unlikely tho!)..

Very happy I dropped in on the Deutsches Museum in Munich, some very cool stuff in there.

A geniune mine shaft dug underneath the museum, that cronicals the modernisation of mining as you progress.

Other highlights: technical toys, a BWM robot, and the the first jet aircraft to be produced in quantity the Messerschmitt Me 262

The high speed 'Italia Eurostar' www.fs-on-line.com trains are _the_ way to travel! A bit pricier than the average train, but very very fast. You see more attactive Italian women (and men I guess), the buffet car has CRUST FREE sandwiches, very comfortable, very reliable, and damn fast!! Oh, and Italy is a beautiful country!
