  1. The parents of the baby boomers - the so-called greatest generation - were the ones who failed to educate their children

The attitude was, and continues to be
___Send the kids to church for a couple of years to learn to be moral
___Send the kids to public school to educate them.

It doesn't work, and it cannot work. It has to be done at home, and there are few parents left with the ability to do it properly. We're screwed.

My 9th grade algebra teacher gave an example of this: a Greek philosopher (Aristotle?) complaining about the corruption of youth in his day, her point being that this has always gone on and is no big deal. What she missed was the collapse of the Greek empire a generation later.

Laziness and corruption do matter, and empires do fall due to the failings of their citizens.

We don't know the exact situation. In close conditions, the child could have been as little as one staggering jump away from veering into the robot's path. Do you expect the parents to have 50 ms reaction times 24/7 ?

The robot needs to be re-engineered. The design team screwed up pretty badly.

  9. Many posters have pointed out that latency in the graphics card is an inherent problem.

There's also latency in the monitor, and latency in the computer which creates each frame. Merging the functions of the monitor and the graphics card should allow a latency reduction of 1 frame (at the display rate). (This brings up new problems, of course. Interfaces change, and the monitor has to handle the weight and heat of the graphics card function - a problem if the monitor is a VR headset.)

  24. Carter is far smarter than Trump.

Carter is more educated than Trump, and maintains the faux modesty common among academics. He's more intelligent than average. He gives the appearance of intelligence. Alas, his timidity in foreign relations made him a poor president.

Trump had about as much formal education as Carter, but business studies is almost as undemanding as an education major. His brash personality makes it difficult to judge his intelligence, but I suspect he's sharper than Carter. If he's president, he won't be cowering to tinpot dictators.

Neither has a clue about economics or private property.
