I've seen enough screwed up cars because some dumb-ass city bitch swerved or tried to pile on the brakes for a little animal and end up wrapped around a tree or in the ditch or rear ended by the other stupid city driver tailgating them. 16. go worry about something else on Drug Making Genes Added To Corn Jump To Soya · · Score: 2, Informative

Being a farmer, there is nothing to worry about in this case, or really any other crops. Corn and soybeans have been genetically modified for a long time, mostly to result in larger harvests, and lately to resist some herbicides that would normally kill it(RoundUp). The tiny bit of corn that grew in this soybean field is 2nd generation, known to farmers as volunteer corn. Any volunteer corn is far from the original in its chemical makeup. It will never grow to what its parent was due to the treatment the original seed corn gets at the seed corn plant. (Seed corn being the corn you buy in bags to plant in the spring.) So, if you think you're going to be harmed by this genetically altered corn, it's too late, corn has been altered for years. Although, this corn was altered for a different reason, but a tiny bit of this mixed in with thousands of bushels of soybeans isn't anything anyone should give a shit about.

  18. 10k = even shorter warranties on 15k RPM IDE Hard Drives? · · Score: 1, Interesting

If anyone has noticed, hard drive warranties have been shrinking due to the quality, size, speed, etc of newer drives. It's getting hard to find a 3 year warranty on IDE drives lately, 1 year is becoming standard and there's even DOA warranties on some drives now. This boils down to huge sizes spinning fast...so if we wanted 10k rpm IDE drives today, that would essentially make warranties on drives nonexistent. I think the best bet us consumers can do is only purchase IDE drives with 3 year warranties, even if it will cost a couple bucks more. Manufacturers will keep pushing crappy IDE drives on us, and if we tell them we don't want short-life drives with our $$ they might decide to up their quality and evenutally we could end up with 10k rpm drives that are reliable and fast as hell. I don't know about you, but i'm sick of RMA'ing drives...

I can't really take sides when it comes to hard drives nowadays. Best bet I can say is buy ones with 3 year warranties. If we all continue to buy drives with 1 year or DOA warranties, the manufacturers are just going to keep pumping us with crappy equipment. But, some of this might come down to how we take care of our equipment. We have to keep these newer drives cool, and we have to pay attention to what they're doing. If you catch one odd action right away, you got a much better shot at saving what you have on the drive. I can't take sides on brands. I had 3 maxtor 20gig 7200 rpm drives go, 2 within one month of receiving the drive. The latest is still working. Sucks that I lost a ton of pictures from my digital camera. (dumped them to the drive to wipe out my laptop's hd, which normally holds the pictures, then the drive died) I just recently had a WD go, and somehow they won't honor the warrany...i won't buy one of theirs anymore. I have a couple Fujitsus, and they are running good so far. And, i've yet to see a Samsung drive go.... I guess we just gotta keep backed up, and take care of our drives. Just don't sell out for the cheaper price if you're not getting a decent warranty.

For all you animal rights wackos out there, think of it this way: If your friend, brother, sister, father, etc... is going to die, and they say the only way for them to live is to raise a pig with a new organ for transplant, I'm sure you'll want that important person to live. Pigs aren't very unique, granted some are pets and they can be one of a kind, but your brother, sister, mom, so on is a very special one of a kind person that you could never replace with just any other human. So, think using your heart, not using ethics when thinking about something this.
