They're missing out, from what I see, as a lot of potential customers. But, there must not be enough possible customers to turn a profit by introducing digital service in certain areas....so we'll just have more hicks without cell phones for a little while longer.

good point. didn't think about that. Yet i would guess creating rain would have more of an adverse effect on the weather than standard irrigation; a lot more moisture going into the air, and likely less falling as rain in the spot desired.

  17. screwing with weather? on UK Team to Study Rainmaking Machines · · Score: 4, Insightful

"People have been trying for many years to modify the weather, from tribal rain dances through to experiments in which small crystals were dropped into clouds to attract moisture."

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but to me the weather the past few years hasn't seemed quite normal to begin with. Floods and heavy rain where it normally doesn't rain much, tornados in odd parts of the country, lack of snow where there's usually plenty....So why would we want to modify it by adding extra moisture in the air and making it rain in places which normally receive little rain to begin with? What would be the effects a few hundred miles away? Really, what's wrong with normal irrigation? It works, and doesn't affect the weather.

  25. why this is news on Investigating Chronic Wasting Disease · · Score: 1

Some people might not understand that CWD can/is a threat since it is not found in humans and we're not sure if it can spread to cattle and humans. CWD is serious since it is going to require time and money to understand the disease. And, without much understanding, hunting license sales are down and less money that could be used for research is not being spent. We NEED to know what this disease really is and what its possible consequneces to humans and other animals might be. If this disease goes unchecked, what are we going to say when it's too late and humans and cattle get it?? Supposedly, when it was discoverd, mad cow disease wasn't able to spread to humans, yet it's now known that it does...and how do we know that CWD won't spread to humans if the research isn't done, and people are misinformed or uninformed on the issue. Yes, this is important, and the best for all hunters to do is to continue to buy licenses, participate in hunts to erradicate diseased areas, and to do anything they can to help. This disease is critical to the future of people and to the states we live in.
