Just go to a store location, preferably not a mall kiosk, and ask the rep there.
That's what I did when I wanted to find out if the carriers had a signal in my apartment.
I simply asked to borrow a unit. They let me take one home although they did take a deposit that was refunded when I returned the phone. You probably wouldn't have to do that just to try it out in the store.
Cingular was the coolest about this, it's a shame they had the crappiest reception in my apartment. They had the phone I wanted too. Sigh
The battle for Bywater will not be in the extended edition DVD, nor will any of the scouring of the Shire.
Unfortunate, because I loved that part of the book, but Peter Jackson never filmed any of it.
This information was included in the Newsweek December 1, 2003 issue that had several articles on the Return of the King. (Page 60 in the caption box labeled "Spoilers!).
Speaking of amusement parks, another great location for renting these would be a zoo.
I'm specifically thinking of the San Diego zoo, which has a very large footprint. There are some hilly areas, but this would be great for people who can stand, but just can't take alot of walking around.
Additionally, it could be a good revenue stream for the zoo. I would much, much rather give my money to rent one of these to the zoo than Walt Disney Corporation.

Funny, but stolen straight from the Simpsons. Moe Sizlak, I believe.
