I used to think it was normal to sit in infront of my PC and have to remember why I sat down

I cant tell you how many times a day something similar happens to me. I can walk into a shop to get a tool, forget what tool i need, walk to what i was working on to find out what tool i needed and forget why i was even in the vicinity of the equipment to start with. If its not that, then I know what i need, and go straight to it ignoring everything else in my path because im so focused on it, OR becuase i know if i dont get it RIGHT NOW ill forget what i was doing.

Whats worse? Ill tell you, its when i intend to do a number of very important things (for instance, turning on a water inlet feeding a pump, after i turn on an air compressor in a different room, and before i go to ANOTHER room to activate somethign else). If i turn on the pump, and someone interrupts me on my way to the inlet, ill go straight to my next goal: an air compressor. Ive burned up a $350 pump this way once, and almost done it twice more. Anytime i have a number of thigns to do and i get distracted, im fucked.

theres even more, but thats some of the worst. What else is bad is when im watching TV or eating dinner or working on something and my kids try to get my attention...theyre 2 and 4, and have to yell at me because i have focused so intensely on what im doing that i have no idea anything else is going on. Im not a diagnosed ADD/ADHD but i have read alot about it, and exhibit a number of the symptoms on a *very* regular basis.

My dad, a longtime republican, is not stupid. He went to college and has successfully operated his own business for almost 25 years.

But he doesnt pay attention to politics. I couldnt see the guy voting anything other than a straight republican ticket if his life depended on it. Sure he'll watch cnn sometimes or the daily show or read the papers, but to actually care what it says, get into it, and vote based on that?

I thought Carl Sagan's idea in "Dragons of Eden", that myths and pictures of flying dragons could likely have come from dreams. We do still dream of alot of very strange things, and many people do, even now, put alot of credit in dreams to be real or to mean something. Hell, a few weeks ago I had a dream I remember vividly, that had, as major characters, several humans, who had an insect carapcice, with working, wiggling legs, growing our of the back of their skull, and somewhat resting on their back.

Imagine, a tribal leader, who nobody would or could replace, waking up from a startling dream about some lizard, or serpentine creature, with wings and breathing fire at him, who was, perhaps, slightly mentally ill, and thought it was a real vision, or perhaps just something noteworthy enough to show others because he could remember it so vividly and it was so unusual.

of course, i only recent began to read some of sagans books, and that one is rather old even for that, so we may be well past that, but i still thought it interesting :P

those silly front-load washing machines (what kind of idiot trusts a rubber seal to contain the water when there's gravity there? How long will the seal last before the machine starts leaking and gets pitched?)

Im a drycleaner, and its normal for commercial cleaning operations to use a front-loading washer, be it for laundry or dry-cleaning. I can not, in the last 15 years, recall even *once* having to replace a door-seal, even on a dry-cleaning machine that used a rather volatile solvent; nevermind a washing machine that uses water and a carefully balanced chemical mixture.

Certainly we changed a number of seals on other parts, but on the front-loading doors? Thats your concern? Honestly, how silly. Besides, a rubber door seal, should it ever *need* replacing, can be replaced EASILY with

wait for it...more rubber. or, as is used on on drycleaning washer/extractor and similarly on the solvent reclaimer: a cork seal, which is going on use for 5 years this easter and isnt showing a sign of a problem.

Nevermind the other benefits of a front-loading machine, such as less used space (imagine a washing machine large enough to do 60lbs of laundry as a top-fill machine, itd be rather large) and it would need more water to do the same job. Remember, in a top-fill you have to fill it with water completely over the level of the clothing; not so with a front-loading washer (i believe the models we use fill something like 60% or so of the drum) and you get a better cleaning, because theres more agitation, because theres more room, unless you absolutely stuff it full, for the clothes to move around. In addition, you can clean large items like blankets and comforters or long items like tablecloths and such without the risk of them tangling around the vertical agitator and causing the damned things to sieze (odd enough, my manager recently tried washing her comforter at home in a large top-loading washer and ruined it, of all the people...)

    And now you know ;)

as i recall, according to our constitution, to remove a member of either house of congress requires a two-shirds majority vote (though i cant recall if its of all memebers present for the vote, or of all memebers, present or otherwise) to remove a member from their office, which probably wouldnt happen unless an investigation took place, which would probably have to be instigated by one of the houses of congress, in which case, finger-pointing would probably start and wed find out that most of the politicians should be removed from their office, which means none of them will be.

or something like that, the republicans have a majority in the house and senate, but not a two-thirds majority, and so much happens along party lines or so close to them that anyone calling for the removal a member would have a hell of a time getting them removed.

the could have afforded it all, but the pregnancy wasnt planned, and they didnt want to deplete their savings. so, you and i get to pay for it, nice, eh?

want more? theres a 33 year old woman where i work, who has 3 kids. she has never been married to any of the fathers, makes maybe 8 bucks an hour (at about 25 hours/wk) and of course gets food stamps and medicaid. she got married last year, to a guy who almost immediately spent 14 months in prison (im not sure for what, he works part-time somewhere now) and THEY plan to have a kid together, so she can get more food stamps. im not guessing about that, i actually heard her say it. sometimes, people just dont really care about getting pregnant at all, or if they do, its not too much because hey....the guvment pays for it, and you get a cute-as-hell kid out of the deal, so its not so bad, is it?

im not sure how i feel about population control and forced sterilization, after all, shouldnt it be someones right to have kids if they want them? i havent even got a good answer to that, part of me says yes, its their right as a human to reproduce, part of me says no, because i sure as hell dont want to pay for someone else's kid when i have my own to take care of.
