I had a similar realization after about 5 years of software development. I'm now doing a Masters of Engineering in Germany, having moved from Australia.
Moving country provided its own challenges for sure (ie #1 being the German language), but succeeding in spite of them has given me some extra self confidence as well. I have no regrets (apart from not doing it earlier).
As far as the letter of recommendation goes, it doesn't hurt to ask, especially if you had more to do with a Professor than just attending classes (ie if they supervised a project etc). My old Honours Prof remembered me and wrote a great letter - alles klar:)
It's a really cool place to live, and nothing I do in my day-to-day life is going to get me into legal trouble. I define this as freedom.
I prefer this definition by John Dalberg-Acton:
"The most certain test by which we judge whether a country is really free is the amount of security enjoyed by minorities."
Use the kde apps then. There's no problem.
I could argue about web rendering ability, but I won't;-)
Personally I get sick and tired of slashdot engulfed in flames as soon as Gnome/KDE/Redhat are mentioned.
Basically, Redhat has made a decision. They've chosen the Gnome road, (they helped build it) and now all the kde lovers are bitching about it cos they got left behind.
That's understandable. But at the end of the day, it's a piece of software. If you like it, if you believe in it, use it and change it if you want to. That's Open Source.
The patch as been pulled: https://github.com/apache/httpd/pull/2
C++? seriously?
That's it, I'm switching to LLVM!
which is also written in C++

Wished they hadn't to be honest....
This for example, was on there today(thanks(?) to Sarah Michelle Olmstead)
"Wat am i supose to do wen the best part of me wuz always u nd wat am i supose to say wen im all choked"
I mean for fuck's sake.
Bests or beats?
I love it that this article gets the oh so subtle tag: cunts Is that why tagging is still in beta?
Hahaha. Someone tries to put forward their serious opinion and then gets modded as 'funny'
Unrucky.
