  1. Re:How do the poor pay for computers now? on Growth of E-Waste May Lead to National 'E-Fee' · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'm not saying paying up front is any better or worse than paying later. Either way it charges people, granted people are much less likely to think of an after affect so that wouldn't decrease sales as much.

Adding $15 to the price of a $500 dollar computer may not deter you or most people, but for a lot of people spending that extra $15 will make a difference.

  2. And the poor will have fewer computers on Growth of E-Waste May Lead to National 'E-Fee' · · Score: 1

I'm all for recycling but adding a tax onto the buying of a computer is just going to make it less likely that someone poor will buy one. The net effect is poorer families will have fewer computers.

There are good ways to pay for public project and there are good ways to tax. It doesn't seem like this is one of them.

Talking about Seattle ... Seattle's already got it's big con -- PAX (http://www.pennyarcadeexpo.com/)!

PAX is Penny-Arcade's convention that they've been running for a few years. While it is mostly oriented towards computer gaming there's still a ton of board gaming and traditional RPG's.

  4. Game mechanics vs Game Setting on Ask Sid Meier · · Score: 1
    Mr. Meier,

what first interested me in Civilization wasn't so much the intricate decision making the game required but that I had a great love of history and Civilization let me micromanage world history - I can't not overstate how much I love the game. Still what interests me in the game is not so much the challenges I face in defeating Rome as that I get to try to defeat Rome. In the end winning the game isn't nearly as important to me as having built a really cool civilization and how it reshaped human history.

The question I would like to ask is how much of creating a good game for you depends on having a compelling story/plot/idea as opposed to quality game mechanics? For example, when "Culture" was added into Civ 3 was that to add another game mechanic that the player would have to deal with, or an attempt to make the game more reflect a realistic world?

Along these lines what non-game related books have influenced your design of the settings for your games?

    Thanks

So he had on bearskins, an axe, a knife and a quiver of arrows.

Wadda ya think? Barbarian? Maybe multi-classed with Rouge? I was thinking Druid at first but the copper axe does away with that.

Maybe he died after his rage ended and his HP dropped below 0. Or he was hit with a cone of cold.

  6. Issues with Wireless Advertising on Advertising on a Free Wireless Network? · · Score: 1

Seems that most have focused on would this make money but I'd like to talk about problems this might cause.

While I think the idea is worth trying here's somethings to think about.
    1) Would 1 provider get sole control over and area? If so how do we determine who get's that area? Would you want a government commision to divy up the country in a similar way that's been done with wireless phones?

    2) Could multiple networks be setup to cover a similar area? Could then a user select from a network according to the ads s/he finds least deplorable?

    3) Do you like seeing billboards as you drive along the road? Because if you don't this is what your asking for on the wireless network.
