>>Every decision... is being made by human beings for human beings...
I think this is partially true...but many of the decisions are being made by governments or companies, those with the money and power, and then the human beings (us) simply get to react/deal/revolt agains those decisions.
If it is your own personal choice to not attend any event in your school, or to dress differently than the society you live in, then you should expect people to react a bit strangely to the way you look/act. Just because you don't "conform" to society just means that you join the society of people who are all being different in exactly the same way.
I do not see the connection between you not attending your high school's prom and you "going Columbine". Personally, I think that the Columbine MASSACRE was a great tragedy, and think that perhaps you should treat those who died for NO reason with a bit more respect.
Security of email is not just being scared of the government. Perhaps you might have emails that you don't want just ANYONE on the Internet to be able to easily read???
Could it be that/. readers are informed enough on these problems to actually know that there _is_ a problem...
Why does everyone think that Microsoft is going to change their UI when it has been making them so much money since win95 took over the desktop market in most distributed pc's? As much as i love gnome/kde/wm, many of these Window Managers emulate many of the things that win9x has done ever since they copied apple.
Until the public is sick of the way windows looks/operates, no changes will be made.
As long as we are taking shots at Microsoft, then maybe the public will start to realize that there is/needs to be a stable, reliable alternative to windows *whatever year* .
This is a news for nerds site, so these particular nerds just dont like microsoft.
If ya don't like it, don't read it.

The US is one of the few countries where everyone wants to drive great distances to experience events, pay lots of money to get in, and then leave before it is even over just so they can beat the traffic.
If given a chance to be disconnected from society, co-workers, whoever, most of us will choose to do so.
I am so sick of buying (or downloading) great packages, and then having to pay extra for some feature that they have...ie- Norton Antivirus, redhat update...Anyone else sick of this??
Seems to me that both these window managers are ready to form alliances with just about anyone that will make them the "default" window manager for *NIX

On the other hand, this could open up cable modem access for ISP's that might not be able to compete in this market otherwise.
