While it sounds a bit cool to be able to play divx movies on your tv or projector, it's both more aforable and easier to just buy a s-video or d-sub cable. Most new graphics cards come with tv-out and projector usually has a d-sub input. And what about other mpeg 4 formats, like Xvid? Does anybody know if they work on this?
I just think that when other developers look at ut2k3 and hopefully see that many people uses it on linux, they realise that linux is a big market with very few good games. That will hopefully cause some of the developers to do a linux version of their games. This is going to give give linux more users, and that is going to give the users of linux more games.... It is a very good sircle.
I think that this is great for linux gaming. I'm sure that other gaming companies is going to follow, and maybe this is going to be a common trend in gaming. If it is, I think linux's popularity is going to rise even more. Maybe we can finally microwave our win cd's now...
Here in norway is it already decided to switch to digital transmission. They are going to give away the first box that plug into the tv for free. You can buy addicional ones if you want a box in in your cabin or something like that. But, you have to pay a yearly subscibtion fee, even though the it isn't going to be any better than todays television offer. The fee is not volunterly, you have to pay it if you want to watch tv. The fee is going to be about 500 kroners ( about $60) This is a final decicion by the Storting (norwegian congress) but there is much discussion about it in the norwegian newspapers.
