That web site should have its internet connection stripped for publishing what might be the silliest goddamned story I've ever read. From the tone of it, you'd think these guys were parachuting into combat.
And the scarier part is that noone else seems to notice how pathetic it is.
I started off with Java and perl and had to go back and learn so many fundamental, lower-level aspects of programming and computers in general. I think it's tougher to do it this way rather than starting off with something like C or Assembly. Languages like Java hide too many of the underlying complexities of computing that a programmer should know from the get-go. I'm not saying that everyone needs to be an assembly guru but I think having some early exposure to things at this level on will make you a better programmer in the end.
the most interesting part of this post is the debate over whether "drinking the kool aid" is a reference to the jonestown massacre or the electric kool aid acid test. i always assumed the former.
anyway, i thought the post's use of "drinking the kool aid" was in reference to the fact that this politician has joined the blog community. I'm assuming others have noticed how eerily enthusisatic bloggers are about the fact that they are bloggers. Read scripting.com sometime and you'll see what i mean.
